Qualifying – 6th
Best yet for Silverkeg amidst disconnects
Qualifying was hit by the shock disconnect of champioship contender Olliekart and debutant Bradley13. For Silverkeg, it proved to be his best qualifying not just this season, but in his time in the Collantine Cup with 6th. Silverkeg stated he could have gone faster but was cautious after his first run ended without a competitive time posted.
After Qualifying, The CCRAP entered deliberations on whether to allow Olliekart and Bradley to rejoin the grid, but in the end, and after much delay, it was decided to go on with the race.
Race – 6th
First points of the season for Silver and Williams
‘Starting higher up the grid than I’m used to, I was very cautious in the first lap and dropped to 9th or tenth.” Starting 6th meant little for Silver after a Ricciardo-esque first lap left him in his usual spot at the start. He managed to keep it clean for the next few laps as others span around him eventually getting back to seventh, The two Williams were inseparable for the first few laps “I really enjoyed my battle with my team mate early on, we raced fair, I was always worried about lag, but it was great fun. I was extremely happy I was able to keep pace with him.” After pitting for Primes on lap 10, Silver came out behind an earlier pitting Teammate and again had to work the gap until a spin for Shyguy brought Siver back into it. As the rain started, Silver felt confident “After Korea, I was really worried about the rain, but the car felt great I was going going really fast until around lap 18/20 when I stayed out 1 lap too long, I lot all grip and spun my way to the pits.”
Going from Primes to inters seemed the logical choice, but Silver soon realised it was anything but “I really struggled on my first lap with inters and inexplicably decided to do another before I realised it was really time for wets. After another pitstop on lap 21, this time for wets, Silver had now lost track with his team mate and had settled into 9th “The car felt great again on the wet tyres, and I was driving well. I was a bit lonely and benefitted from disconnects from both @slr and @Brooksy.”
After a lonely stint on the wets, the rain eased around Lap 30, The wets were no longer the tyre to be on as Silver soon found out with multiple spins and an atroiously slow in lap…and then came the Williams pit stop debacle. Silverkeg had spun entering the final corner, and maade the late decision to cut across into the pits, unfortunately at the same time, his team mate Shyguy was hurtling into the pits at 300km/h plus. From Silver’s perspective, this caused a catastrophic accident for his team mate who still managed to trundle sown the pitlane ahead only for Silver to drive through his team mate and get serviced first “It was an incredibly confusing time, I thought I had caused a horrific accident for my team mate and despite him being a lap in front of me, I unfortunately made him wait to be serviced behind me, I’m sorry @Shyguy1992”
Exiting the pits on inters, Silver entered an accident involving Electrolite and another driver, he managed to get through it relatively cleanly, his incident with his team mate proved harmless as Shyguy was forced to leave due to the delayed start. After a few spins in the final segment, Silver made it to the end in a Personal Best 6th “I didn’t feel as comfortable with the car in the final segment on inters, and really struggled toward the end, I almost lost position to @David-A near the very end but got it home. I’m very happy with my result today, and although I’m fully aware it came due to several DNF/DNS’s I’m pleased with how I drove and my improved pace.”
