i will be there. shame we’re doing monaco! its rubbish online. all the lag etc. not very fun as a ‘race’. great to drive in qualy tho.

I completely disagree. Last year’s Monaco race was epic. Started off with a three way scrap between iamsa8, Monsoon and myself and ended with a Senna/Mansell-esque race to the line between Monsoon and I. One of the most intense online races I’ve ever been a part of.

I have to disagree too. There will be crashes, but we’re not professional online racers, so for the races we have had around Monaco, they have been really good. I had some great battles last year with numerous drivers, and I had no idea where I would finish until the end. And of course in the first season, I got my first podium at Monaco!

The race tonight will probably have some intense action (read: crashes, lag, anger) so if at all possible, try to record the race and we’ll be able to laugh about it later. And remember to be careful into turn 1. Brake earlier rather than later. Remember your normal marker (bearing in mind the car will be heavier than in qualifying, which means brake a bit earlier!) and don’t be distracted too much or you’ll miss it. Unless you thought the first corner at Korea was hilarious.

i take it back then ;) looking forward to it anyway. perhaps im just used to the usual non-league crash fests found on the public lobbies.

Can’t do much of a report really. Quali was okay. Didn’t expect everyone to be that much quicker. Started 4th because of Oli’s penalty.

The game decided to switch me back to cockpit mode again, so I had to switch at the start, I’m sorry if it effected anyone’s start.
Got hit in the first corner despite this, and carried on from last. Worked my way up to 4th, despite being hit a few times, and then got disconnected from the game. First time it has happened to me on 2012 and it’s a horrible feeling. My Championship lead looks like it will be diminished in this one race, with Damon looking set for a podium.

Crazy stuff. Got a good start from 9th, after there were at least 2 incidents before turn 1. I was even 4th for a little while. Then a Sauber clouted the back of my car at Massanet, putting me down the order, before I spun at Portier, putting me last, and I picked up a penalty while trying to recover.

My pace was decent, but I spun out countless times, so in the end, I was well ahead of Slr, Bradley, Jonny, etc, but nowhere near Sato113 or Electrolite. 6th is decent enough, could have been much worse.

Most annoying incident had to be when I drove straight into a Mclaren (or Lotus) that had spun after St. Devote. It had “ghosted” so I thought I could go through, but the genius game made it solidify as I drove through.

    Bradley..+100 seconds..cor.

Quali: Started Quali 2nd, 7 tenths behind Monsoon. Had to slow down to avoid catching a Sauber and in turn got caught by the guys behind. Then iamsa and Ollie put in stormers to go top, with the top three separated by .076, but with Ollie’s penalty, I was third.

Race: Passed Monsoon at the start, iamsa lagged into the wall at La Source but from my perspective I didn’t hit him (which was a recurring theme), so I was now in the lead but Monsoon was on my tail the whole time. Settled into a pace of running away whilst trying not to crash whilst everybody else around hit walls and we had a couple of disconnects, most notably Jamie.

A period of small amounts of passing and re passing occurred here, including me hitting the wall at La Source and allowing Monsoon through, him sliding through Tabac and allowing me back through, me once again bashing the wall at La Source with Monsoon being a bit more aggressive in his pass this time, and the 3rd most prominent incident with me trying at pass at Rascasse and Noghes but instead punting him into the wall.

Eventually Ollie caught up, having started 11th with his penalty, and at one point tried to pass me in the tunnel, but we collided and I collected a 10 second penalty. I had originally planned a one stop on lap 19 but that obviously wasn’t happening and so on lap 12 I pitted, wanting Options but the team were nice enough to put me on a good strategy that involved Primes.

Me and Monsoon re emerged, not as close as before, and so I started admiring the rear ends of a lot of Lotuses and Saubers. Monsoon would occasionally close the gap but I’d turn up the fuel and create a gap, which wasn’t helped with the number of cars we were lapping. I planned to pit around lap 27, and I was just behind my team mate Sato when he pitted, so I aborted and went for another lap, with Monsoon also pitting on lap 28 for Options. I emerged just ahead of Sato, with him no doubt doing his best to hold Monsoon up, and Ollie pitted a bit later.

The third stint largely went as the second, with Monsoon never really getting close enough, until I outbraked myself at the swimming pool and gave him DRS. Of course, the logical thing to happen was that he would hit me, go flying through the air and land right at La Source, putting him a few seconds down. Things went well until around lap 35 when I decided to go flat out through Tabac, and I spun, also allowing Ollie through. Luckily for me, Ollie had 20 seconds, but it was good to also pass him on track after an incident with Bradley. 2nd place.

Set the fastest lap at the time, but Ollie bettered it by a second the same lap which was demoralising. Apparently we lapped Spud 3 or 4 times.

A thousand apologies guys. I was woefully under-prepared for today’s race and in retrospect shouldn’t have turned up. I should have known I would have been a liability so I apologise profusely to anyone whose races I messed up. I was trying to get out of the way as much as I could, but lag made it very difficult to judge, so by the end I was being very conservative in that respect. I probably should have DSQd myself, but I don’t like to give up.

Actually made a decent start to the race, avoided some of the carnage and was running 5th for a short while before going off at St Devote. I certainly did not have the pace to justify such a position. After that, I lost a lot of time very quickly and my race simply became a matter of getting of the way and apparently I wasn’t even capable of that.

Apologies to @david-a it was indeed me who spun at St Devote, and likewise I thought my car had ghosted. I did get a penalty for that, but adding 10s onto my race time today is like giving Karthikeyan a grid penalty. I think some other guys got caught up in that so sorry to you too. I did manage half decent pace for brief periods, but I was miles behind. When I saw that slr had gone towards the end I thought an undeserved point may have been available, but I was of course too far behind, so have suffered the ultimate embarrassment of finishing 11th out of 10.

I agree with Mag. Last years event at Monaco remains one of my favourite ever races! It was unbelievable to watch!

This years race was a cracker too though, and in the “Battle Of The Internet Connections”, I was happy enough to get 9th. Woop!

Well I had an awful race, I can’t really write a proper review as way too much happened for me to remember it all. The lag was horrible, as I accidently spun some others who from my view I didn’t touch or barely. Driving the car was like driving on ice as the car just wanted to get away from my control at virtually every corner, this wasn’t helped by the rapid tyre deg. I disconnected with about two laps to go.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I think 50% race distances are too long. Each race has lasted roughly 50 minutes, compared to about 35 minutes last year. 40% race distances found a good balance between allowing enough time for strategies and good racing to take place, whilst not being long enough for it to drag. I may just not like 50% race distance on this game in particular, as I don’t enjoy F1 2012 as much as F1 2010 and F1 2011.

  • Profile picture of Alfie Alfie said 5 months, 1 week ago:

Unfortunately there is no 40% option.

    @Alfie La Source? :-D

Also, my second pass through Beau Rivage wasn’t intended to be more aggressive, but I got closer to the wall and when I clipped it, it spat me out into the middle of the track. I thought it would have sent you flying but luckily you were still just behind me. Sorry about that, regardless.

And our crash on the pit straight was amazing. I was pirouetting into Sainte Devote at top speed and I genuinely took my hands off the wheel and released the pedals at that point. I had no idea what to do, so I thought I’d see what happens and take it from there! Luckily I ended up facing the right way… But wow, that was basically like Grosjean’s start only in fast-forward.

Makes me even more sad that I disconnected when I did. I may not have had the pace of the top 3 (4, if you count Iamsa8), but a 1 stop strategy was more than feasible for me. I was able to look after the tyres a little better than at previous iterations of Monaco.
