@magnificent-geoffrey I’ll happily step in if so many are absent.

Hm. It does suck, and you’re right It’s not ideal, but I do think we can manage and I don’t think it’ll be the first time this’ll happen. RIISE wasn’t at Melbourne either, after all.

And I’ve forgotten, Spud can’t make it either. So that’s five of us not showing up and I have no idea if Ads or David-A will make it too. It’s pretty disappointing, if I’m honest. Especially when I set these dates months in advance and everyone who signed up said they would commit to making the full schedule.

I understand that offline things get in the way and are more important, but how many are we going to get today? Less than 10? That’s not really what I wanted.

@magnificent-geoffrey As I said I will step if it is too depleated!

@Formula-1 I thought Magffrey was a dictator? Do you not still hate him?

@Formula-1 Let me be clear – after the immature way you’ve acted and the things that you’ve said about me, I will never be inviting you to race with us. Now please stop posting in this thread.

@magnificent-geoffrey – It’ll always be better than our league, we had 5 turn up for the Finale! :L

sorry i hadn’t been in touch before the race i thought mag knew i could make it. Anyway sorry about the first corner tangle, i got tagged from behind and spun one of the sauber’s completely unintentially. Had great fun though, anyway up for some more casual races now?

    Ouch.

    Qualifying – 5th
    Race – 5th

After a fairly mediocre qualifying performance I was still confident as I knew my race pace was going to be decent (which I later proved). Something odd happened towards the end of the session as I was on target for improved my time by about 0.2 seconds, but it jumped to the leaderboard. Which was odd.

Now, the race. Oh my, the race.

I got monumentally shafted after a really great start off the line. I spent the first laps clearing slr and Ads before playing catch up with the front four. During this period I was becoming increasingly pleased with my pace, and I think it was Damon I caught up with and passed?

I then pitted early for the primes on Lap 4. I came out and again, the car felt great and I was driving well. It was at some stage during this stint where I overtook the 2 Red Bulls, one of which had a bit of an off somewhere. I was in 3rd! Finally I was going to get a podium and something I felt was representative.

Boom. 2 penalties in the next chicane. And we’re talking by some fine margins here. I got to the end of the stint, and by the end of that AusSteve had caught up with me and overtook me. But he had a spin near the pit entrance! I went to pit, and I don’t know if the game sensed I was doing some illegal overtaking, but another penalty arrived, I was fuming.

The third stint was lonely, and again, in 3rd place. There was another penalty for a corner cut, which, admittedly, was more crude – it was more a case of not concentrating than cheating. I think another one came during the pit exit as well as I was dodging a backmarker. I’d hate for everyone to think I’m a cheat…I never really get more than one penalty, so it’s just one of them races.

So at least I know that us Saubers can beat the Red Bulls on race pace. Sorry to my team mate, feel like I’ve let you down! :( Congrats Ed, you outclassed the field.

    Qualifying:
    ——
My lap was reasonably good, I maybe could’ve got a few more tenths out in the final sector. I was on the prime tyres, so pole was a nice surprise. I knew I was in a good position from then on, as my race pace is always stronger than my qualifying pace. I basically did an identical lap to my qualifying time in the other F1Fanatic league race earlier today, so at least I was consistent! I think already having a 40% race and qualifying under my belt today certainly helped me in this race.

    Race:
    ——
I got a very good start, and was clear into Turn 1 with no danger from behind. From there, I was able to instantly build a gap, and from then on, was just basically maintaining the gap for the rest of the race. I pitted on Lap 8, which gave the lead to Geoff for one lap, which unfortunately cost me the grand chelem! :P I went with primes again, before putting the options on on Lap 16.

During the race, there were few particularly eventful moments, but I kept myself interested through trying to improve my fastest lap, and I ended up doing a better lap in the race than in qualifying. Getting through the lapped traffic gave me no major problems, although catching them in the slow parts of the track made me a little nervous as to whether they had seen me or not. For example, I passed one lapped car when they went wide, so I was hoping they knew I was there and didn’t just sweep back onto the racing line.

This actually isn’t the worst track to drive, but there are some quite frustrating parts. Turn 17 is surprisingly challenging to get the braking right for, I think I locked my brakes there on about half of the laps. I always focus on having a very stable setup that is good in the corners, and I think that was useful today. In F1 2011, you can find a good compromise between top speed and downforce.

    Thanks for the nice comments.
