@Electrolite Obviously, the videos are fun to look back on, but the main reason I want people recording their races is for judiciary purposes. Codemasters’ penalty system doesn’t seem to be based on who was at fault, but about penalising the person who was least affected by an incident. I go to the effort of setting everything up half an hour before the race to avoid repeats of what happened to Steve in Montreal last year, because until the developers can actually implement a replay system that we can look back on and deal penalties out ourselves, we have to stick with the in-game penalty system and rely on people filming their televisions. I wouldn’t want to take your place away from you, but… I did outrace you in the end, and I don’t want to set the same precedent we had last season when Steve’s unjust penalty wasn’t lifted. It would have cost me a win if the penalty was taken from his time, but Steve beat me on track and he did nothing wrong in the process of doing so.

Anyway, I think we’re pretty evenly matched drivers! I have a feeling we’re going to be rivals, which means I’m going to have to pretend you’re another 100 metres further ahead when overtaking (as that’s likely where you actually are).

I don’t think we should have a stewarding system, because I get the feeling it only lead to people saying things like “This guy got his penalty overturned, why can’t my penalty be overturned too?”. To be honest I was a bit peeved with my penalty, and I guess it would be nice if it was overturned, but then every incident would have to be looked at. After that, the question of whether a penalty sticks will then just come down to opinion at the end of the day, and some may feel hard done by the final decisions.

I really wish my camera had lasted throughout the whole race now as exactly the same principle in terms of lag/unfairness meant I suffered at the end. But we’ll await the verdict, eh?

I agree with slr. As we see throughout the actual F1 season, people have differing perspectives on what is fair and what isn’t. We need to stick to one set of impartial rules, no matter how flawed they may be. I believe that the penalties will balance out over the course of the season anyway.

but then every incident would have to be looked at.

I don’t think that would be a problem, really. If people are willing to go out of their way to provide evidence, I can’t see why we shouldn’t investigate it.

So both penalties remain? If that’s the case, I don’t think any penalties should be overturned, whatever the case is. I’m cool with whatever, but I think it should be the same for everyone.

Well that took forever but it is finally up…

I have a bit of footage of your incident with supernicebob @Damonsmedley
I will post it a bit later, forgot to put it in my actual video (at normal speed)

    It gets worse…

No arguing with @shyguy1992 and @Silverkeg ‘s videos: I was all over the shop after T2 so I sincerely apologise to everyone, in particular I think @RIISE and @Ratboy for swiping into them trying to get my car under control. Doesn’t really seem right to me that other people have picked up penalties and I didn’t get anything for that. I’m obviously going to have to work on my awareness for the next race I was involved in far too many significant incidents there. Might try switching to the roll-hoop cam which everyone else seems to use.

Thinking about it more, I have to say that @damonsmedley ‘s penalty doesn’t really make any sense to me – even if he had actually been where he was from my point of view, I was still the one who turned in on him where he took the corner pretty much as normal. Unfortunately I have no video to upload but will look into that for next time.

If there is a review into Damon’s penalties I would certainly support the one he had off me to be removed, and if I were to receive a retrospective penalty for my shoddy driving I would not argue with that either.

Unfortunately we don’t have a British view of supernicebob and Damon’s collision but here is mine:

    Can’t really see much though

First of all, I loved all of the videos! @Shyguy1992 made some terrific overtaking manoeuvres in the first part of the race, but I also loved @supernicebob‘s pass on you into turn 4 at the start, directly after you had just passed him! Great racing all-round. You seem like a very clean driver.

It’s great to see @Silverkeg has improved since the last round and was locked in some pretty entertaining battles. I also liked your choice of music. :) Thanks for uploading the incident too. It’s unusual how I hit the front wheels of his car but somehow that tipped him into a spin as if I had ran into the back of him!

Nic, I don’t think any of your driving warranted a penalty. My point is that the game shouldn’t hand out so many penalties, so I wouldn’t want anyone given a penalty when even the game thought they were fine! The only penalties the game is good at dishing out are the ones for cutting corners. I’ve had a few of those penalties in online races, but not once have I been penalised unfairly. The incidents where you pass a stationary car and get done for an illegal overtake, however, are not right. But I really don’t think you should have a penalty added as I can’t see anything wrong with your driving.

And now, the video you’ve all been waiting for:

  • Profile picture of electrolite electrolite said 1 year, 4 months ago:

    Thoroughly enjoyed that video!

  • Profile picture of Slr Slr said 1 year, 4 months ago:

No one was waiting for that video more than me. I was dissapointed that I couldn’t stay ahead of you after I pitted, I guess you can thank your teammate for that.

  • Profile picture of damonsmedley damonsmedley said 1 year, 4 months ago:

Great video. I was wondering when you’d work that Legard moment into a video, and you’ve finally done it! :D I bet you couldn’t wait for a first corner shunt so you could do that…

What happened between @jonnyw360f1 and @ed24f1 at turn 2, by the way? I couldn’t quite see it from this video.

  • Profile picture of electrolite electrolite said 1 year, 4 months ago:

@damonsmedley that incident is on my video too, around 1:53. I think my rear left tyre and jonny’s front right connected ever so slightly and that sent Jonny into a spin, and Ed had to brake hard to avoid it! It kind of looks like I’m turning in on him, but the fact is, just as I turn (and leave him room), we collided. My steering was going left, but not as sharp as it ends up going after I begin to spin too.

Ah yes, another incident I have to apologise for. This time to @electrolite. Basically my overtaking skills are poor at best, and I think I just got frustrated by not being able to outbrake you into T1. I stuck my nose up the inside of T2, and would have made it round without contact, but you rightfully weren’t expecting such a move and I’m sorry. Fortunately, the person’s who’s race it affected most was my own – @ed24f1 was coming round the corner behind and could do nothing to avoid me and I was hit from behind. Sorry, guys.
