The barriers didn’t stop me from overtaking in Monaco. I actually did more overtakes yesterday, than in any other race.

    Yeah, @Magnificent-Geoffrey! *blows raspberry*

Who recorded the race, by the way? I’ve nearly finished editing my review so it should be up by tomorrow evening. I’ve also sent the details to all members via private message in case anyone was having trouble logging in.

Here you go everyone! This one is another cracker.

Great video. The video for me shows the advantage of having a steering wheel, you can turn much quicker and easily. I wish I had a video to show, but I forgot to press play on my camera, I kept telling myself during the race to do it whilst pitting, but I forgot both times.

And my video should finish uploading here shortly:

WOW! Electrolite overtaking another car round the OUTSIDE OF RASCASSE?! Overtake of the season.

Thanks for another video @supernicebob! I have to say, that McLaren looks like it was a massive handful.

Thanks for the video, I was really hoping you’d look back at 6:33 to catch my pass on David at the Tabac corner. Electrolite’s pass was very brave, reminded me of my pass on David in Abu Dhabi on the outside of turns 16 and 17. The driver on the inside could at any point have tagged us and spun us off.

unfortunately my video file doesn’t want to work, and no amount of prodding will get it to play, even trying it in VLC player like damon suggested last race isnt working so there’ll be no race edit from me this time :(

One of the many things that this championship has highlighted for me is my near complete inability to setup a car effectively. A fair chunk of the speed gap is down to skill (massive credit to the podium finishers this weekend for maintaining both pace and concentration), but I still feel that the setup is a significant factor too. When I look at some of the other videos it does almost feel that they are driving different cars, but again I’m also probably lacking commitment into the corners.

I think in Malaysia, as well as being generally poor at that track, my setup was actually worse than if I’d not touched the default settings at all. With Brazil and Monaco it has been a bit clearer on which way to go, but I expect to struggle again at Spa. That said, my Monaco setup, combined with my less than smooth driving style and heavy right foot did destroy my tyres.

It’s tricky to know exactly where I stand before a race though as the only benchmark I have to measure against is the AI which I’m usually comfortably faster than.

Still, I’m having a lot of fun in the races and it really is a pleasure to race with a bunch of fine, fast and fair racers which is completely different to what you usually get online. I think the main area I can improve in though are my general driving skills and trying to cut down on the mistakes. Would be great to be in the mix for a podium position in the last three rounds.

Bob, you aren’t that bad at all I would’ve thought. Everytime I think I’ve done a decent lap, I am astounded by everyone else being able to punch in laps up to 2 or more seconds faster! I’m completely at a loss how y’all do this to be quite honest!

But it is great fun all the same. I take take great pleasure, gunning for tenth place or whatever it may be. That tenth place in Monaco felt like a win! It was completely brilliant. I do apologise for my spin in front of you at the chicane. My tires were shot at that stage. Hopefully I will do better at Spa. I will be practicing hard for it anyway.

I guess like one of the real McLaren drivers I’m my own harshest critic!

@supernicebob @spud I think my performances are dictated mainly by how good a job I do finding a setup. I’d ideally like to have more time to practice but that hasn’t been the case this season, unlike the last.

It also means a lot to hear how you are enjoying being a part of this, even if you might not be regularly fighting for wins. I’ve put a lot of effort into this to try and make it fun and enjoyable for everyone and it’s great to see that people are having a lot of fun taking part. That’s why it does irk me when we have people quit out in the middle of races simply because they aren’t doing well and then you never hear back from them. That’s unfortunate. The whole point is that this is a community based series and I love it when people contribute to the community with videos, race reports or anything else like that – it helps to build a good rapport amongst the group which helps the racing as well as making the whole thing a better experience for everyone.

Setup is huge. You begin generally, and slowly hone in on specific details, and by the end, it might come down to moving one tiny thing (for example, changing front susp from 7 to 8 ) and bingo, it’ll click – and you’ll know it because all of a sudden you can wring your car by the neck around the circuit and it feels an absolute joy. The thing is, of course, every one of us is a different driver, and thus every setup will (most likely) be different.

From watching your Monaco video @supernicebob it seems you need more front wing and less rear ride height. Try experimenting with extremes concerning negative camber and toe angles too.

The important thing about working out a setup is not to change two things at once. You’ve got to be really patient – even if it’s altering one parameter and doing a few laps. Time consuming stuff, but well worth it. Sorry if any of this is obvious stuff, just my two cents. (coming from Mr. 9th place….)
