The following is an announcement for all of the people who competed in the Final Round of the Collantine Cup Inaugural Season (Interlagos):

Collantine Cup Season 2 – Calendar

This is a confirmation of the calendar we will run to for Season 2. I feel that by giving the dates well in advance, we should hopefully be able to ensure that we have as full a grid as possible for each race and won’t have so many people miss out this time round.

The following dates* all fall on Sundays. All events are scheduled to begin at 11:00AM (GMT). The actual circuits that each Round will take place on will be determined nearer the start of the Championship.

*All dates are provisional and are subject to change throughout the season if they are not manageable for the majority of competitors

Official Pre-Season Practice Day: 20th November (Attendance is required by all competitors who are available)

    Round 1: December 4th
    Round 2: December 18th
(Next two Sundays fall on both Christmas and New Year’s Day)
    Round 3: January 8th
    ^(Back to back weekends) v
    Round 4: January 15th
    Round 5: January 29th
    Round 6: February 12th
    Round 7: February 26th
    Round 8: March 11th

What’s going to happen is that we’ll sort out some casual F1F races when the game comes out and have some short, fun racing together. Hopefully we’ll get a lot of different people joining in so we can all get used to each other and play around with a few different settings and see what people are most comfortable with. Then, around the middle of November, I will ask all the guys from Season 1 who they would like to have join us for Season 2 and I will offer places on the grid to whoever the group feel would be a good fit for the Collantine Cup.

However, it’s important for me to point out that it doesn’t matter how quick you are or whether you race with a wheel or a pad or with driving aids on or off, this series is all about letting its participants have a fun, enjoyable series to help pass the off-season. Also, let me be very clear – if I think you’re the sort of person who will take things too seriously, act immaturely and make moany, accusatory posts on the forum after races when you’re involved in accidents or be unreliable and not turn up to races without telling anyone beforehand, I’m not going to invite you. I want people who will race in the same friendly, fun spirit that we all did last season. I was really impressed by a lot of the people who joined in the ‘Le Mans 24 Laps’ event I organised a few months back and I would love to play with some of those guys again on F1 2011, personally. I also want people who will want to help contribute to the series by posting race previews and post-race reviews, videos on the Collantine Cup YouTube page etc, and really add something to the community.

I know I’m not going to be able to please everyone and that there will probably be people who want to join in who will be left disappointed. But I put a lot of effort into organising this series last year and am putting even more effort into making it better for everyone this year, so I feel I have a right to ‘do a Balestre’ and make the ultimate decisions about how things are going to work. Keep in mind that there is also the Official PS3 Championship underway and the return of the Junior Championship later in the year, also. If people want to join those series, I’m sure there will be opportunities to. As usual though, regarding the Collantine Cup, I will be asking the participants for their opinions and ideas about how things should work to make sure everyone has a say in how the series works. However, I will be doing that nearer the time. At the moment I’m just wanting to make people aware of what the calendar will be to allow those who’d like to compete again to plan ahead.

Can’t wait, I just know this new season will be even better than last.

Typical that the one day I decide to confirm the calendar, Bernie changes the start date of next season!

So, what this means is that we can stretch the end of the calendar out by a week. So now Round 7 will take place on the following Sunday (Feb 26th) instead of being the Sunday after Round 6. I’ve also moved the Final Round back a week to March 11th so it takes place the weekend before the Australian Grand Prix is now taking place. That’ll mean we start Season 2 the weekend after the final race of the 2011 F1 season and finish the weekend before the start of the 2012 F1 season. Seems a pretty nice fit, don’t you reckon?

I’d personally prefer a ninth race, but I really don’t mind how it happens. As long we enjoy ourselves, that’s what matters.

Are you in the Facebook group? We had a vote on the number of races not too long ago and literally everyone said 8 races was “perfect”. So that’s what I’ve stuck to.

  • Profile picture of Slr Slr said 1 year, 9 months ago:

Eight races is absolutely fine, I’m not in the Facebook group and I don’t even have a Facebook account. I might make one for the group however.

That’s what I did. I’m the same as you. The rest of the gang seem to use it so it is a handy way of communicating with everybody.

Keith has very kindly edited the schedule in the top post above for me. So the calendar at the top of the page is now 100% accurate and is the calendar we will be running to.

Maybe it’s too early to say, but what’s the optimal grid size are you looking for, if you have one?

  • Profile picture of Magnificent Geoffrey Magnificent Geoffrey said 1 year, 9 months ago:

I’ve already asked the guys and they told me that basically the more the merrier. Why not aim for a full 16 player grid?
