What’s going to happen is that we’ll sort out some casual F1F races when the game comes out and have some short, fun racing together. Hopefully we’ll get a lot of different people joining in so we can all get used to each other and play around with a few different settings and see what people are most comfortable with. Then, around the middle of November, I will ask all the guys from Season 1 who they would like to have join us for Season 2 and I will offer places on the grid to whoever the group feel would be a good fit for the Collantine Cup.
However, it’s important for me to point out that it doesn’t matter how quick you are or whether you race with a wheel or a pad or with driving aids on or off, this series is all about letting its participants have a fun, enjoyable series to help pass the off-season. Also, let me be very clear – if I think you’re the sort of person who will take things too seriously, act immaturely and make moany, accusatory posts on the forum after races when you’re involved in accidents or be unreliable and not turn up to races without telling anyone beforehand, I’m not going to invite you. I want people who will race in the same friendly, fun spirit that we all did last season. I was really impressed by a lot of the people who joined in the ‘Le Mans 24 Laps’ event I organised a few months back and I would love to play with some of those guys again on F1 2011, personally. I also want people who will want to help contribute to the series by posting race previews and post-race reviews, videos on the Collantine Cup YouTube page etc, and really add something to the community.
I know I’m not going to be able to please everyone and that there will probably be people who want to join in who will be left disappointed. But I put a lot of effort into organising this series last year and am putting even more effort into making it better for everyone this year, so I feel I have a right to ‘do a Balestre’ and make the ultimate decisions about how things are going to work. Keep in mind that there is also the Official PS3 Championship underway and the return of the Junior Championship later in the year, also. If people want to join those series, I’m sure there will be opportunities to. As usual though, regarding the Collantine Cup, I will be asking the participants for their opinions and ideas about how things should work to make sure everyone has a say in how the series works. However, I will be doing that nearer the time. At the moment I’m just wanting to make people aware of what the calendar will be to allow those who’d like to compete again to plan ahead.
