Those two races were very interesting and enjoyable. Ironically, the only problems I have are with the game; that penalty system is useless. But it’s the lesser of two evils – we can’t switch it off because people wouldn’t be punished for mistakes that really are punishable. So there is nothing we can do about that. Secondly, the suspension bug sort of ruined a lot of the fun for me. In the first two races (using 11-11 suspension stiffness) I found that I was having fun driving and could concentrate more on racing with the cars around me, pushing the car to it’s limit and being fair with the other drivers. In the third race, however, (with 6-6 suspension stiffness) the car was pretty much undriveable. I was concentrating so much on fighting the car that I noticed I didn’t even use KERS. I would hate to have seen what would have happened if I actually had to race wheel-to-wheel with anybody. Therefore, I propose that we use 11-11 suspension stiffness for the actual championship (if the patch isn’t ready by the time we start). We can concentrate more on fair racing with one another, and if someone does not comply to the rule than they are actually disadvantaging themselves.

But I shall finish on a high-note; they were probably the three fairest Collantine Cup-related races I’ve ever taken part in. Cheers guys! I can hardly wait fort he first round now!

Jonny covered it pretty well there. Lag was I think better in the 2nd and 3rd race, so maybe we should consider not having Mag Geoff as host if his internet isn’t the fastest? I don’t know whose internet is best though, maybe everyone could do some speed tests and find out?

The only negative comment I would have is that people were a little aggressive through Turn 1. There were plenty of crashes and spins there in all the races. Maybe it was just a coincidence or lag that caused them though, or people were a little rusty and not sure of the braking markers yet (I think that was what happened at Monza).

Obviously it would be better to have a UK host as most competitors are from there.

We tried me as a host in one of the races last year and my connection just can’t take it. But when it’s me connected to another host it is really smooth, irrespective of whether they are in Australia or the UK.

I hosted one last year. It was a bit of a mixture, most people had a perfect connection where as other had bad lag.

Let me know if there is anyone keen to do some midnight racing in Aus… I’m happy to host it too… here is my speed test… http://www.speedtest.net/result/1588848417.png

Sorry guys, with my internet connection speeds, I felt I needed to show off… LoL… that’s what cable gives me, my ADSL2 connection never got over 8Mbps. The best I’ve seen is 72Mbps – but that was limited by the speed of my wifi!

I have absolutely no idea if it’s good or not but I suspect it’s bad because it’s a lower number than everyone else! Also, what is ‘ping’? And why do I always need to reset my router? It suddenly goes slow at random times and when I did the test it said it was about half of the speed of what it is in the image above. Why is it that a simple reboot makes it work again?

Sorry for turning this into a tech support thread.

How about on Sunday, we try:
    -one race hosted by me
-one hosted by slr (the man with the best speed out of the British guys so far) and
-one hosted by Steve in Aus (fastest connection of all)

That way, we can see what if any effect the different hosts have on connection. Codemasters’ patch is supposed to help the online stability too, so I wish they would hurry up and release it already!

@damonsmedley “Ping” is a way of measuring how responsive your connection is. It’s the time it takes for a bit of information to go from your PC to another server and back again. Like sonar. Hence, “ping”.

Also, could you please hurry up and choose a car – I can’t begin sorting out what the new lads will drive until you do. Thanks.
