The first driving game I ever got my hands on was one called Lotus Turbo Challenge 2. Technically, it’s a racing game as you’re against the clock ;)

First Formula 1 game was F1 97 for the PS1, just love it.

For me, it’s either Grand Prix 2 or Need for Speed. I’ve probably played Outrun or other games as well, but those two were my main games when I was 6 or 7. I even remember buying (illegal, actually) add on discs for Grand Prix 2 to update it to the 1997, 1998 and 1999 seasons.. Good times. Actually made carsets for a while for GP2 between 2004 and 2006, I think, and ran a forum for the community.

Probably Gran Turismo 3, although that may be wrong (first non-car racing game was definitely SSX).

I’m not sure BMX Simulator on the MSX qualifies, and we had Test Drive (from Accolade) on my father’s XT as well, but the first proper racing game I played was stunt car racer on the Amiga.

If memory serves me correctly I believe the first racing game I ever played was Stunt on 286 PC or FZero on Super Nintendo.
The first F1 game I played was I believe EA Sports F1 ’99.

When I was 10 years old, back in 1991, I played F-1 Race on my GameBoy for countless hours. Enjoy the stone-age graphics on the link below:

The first racing game I remember playing as a kid was Crash Team Racing for PS1.

Geoff Crammond’s REVS on my cousin’s BBC micro. When he released Grand Prix I don’t think I left my room for six months.

Closely followed by Nigel Mansell’s Grand Prix on the Spectrum.

Like @ajokay, I have fond memories of Rad Racer as a child… even if I was terrible at it.

Then there’s quite a gap… I honestly don’t know how I developed a liking for cars or racing games, but then I vaguely remember liking Automobili Lamborghini for the N64. I remember you had to move the stick in circles frantically to get tyres changed or refuelled or something silly like that.

The ones I really played the hell out of were Need for Speed: High Stakes and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. It was this series that really got me into racing games… afterwards it was Porsche Unleashed, NFS: Underground 2…

My first racing game was Gran Turismo on the PS1. Not only was it my first racing game, but also one of the first video games of any kind I ever played. We also had F1 97, which is the reason I love F1 today, but I lost the disc, which annoyed my older brother! (I was about 4 at the time)

The racing games from the atari 2600. For me, this one was the best.

My first was the original TOCA game. I must have been around 7 when I got it for my PS1. My favourite car at the time was the Renault Laguna, my favourite track was Donington Park and I also remember Tiff Needell’s voiceover!
