Why is Nico getting so much criticism? They showed an onboard from Alonso when he was “pushed” off the track, and you can see that he wasn’t pushed at all. Quite simply, Rosberg decided to defend the inside line, but because there was a nice concrete run-off strip rather than grass or a wall, the attacking driver decided to keep going, knowing Nico would not defend off the track. Haven’t seen an onboard from Lewis’ car, but I suspect it was the same thing.
He gets one move, and he made it. The cars behind had no part of their cars alongside when Rosberg was at the edge of the track, but they continued to go right for reasons I cannot understand. Well, I can, sort of — there was a, as Brundle would say, “get-out-of-jail-free” concrete run-off that allowed them to keep moving. Rosberg did nothing wrong and there’s simply no comparison to Schumacher’s move on Rubens in Hungary, because Rubens was actually alongside in that case and had no choices other than lifting or not lifting.
Alonso and Hamilton should have seen Rosberg wanted the inside and gone left rather than running off the road. Lewis is quite lucky not to have been given a penalty for passing off the track, actually.
