Interesting analysis! Strange to see Hamilton ahead of Vettel despite RB’s performance in the last 5 races. A horrible season for McLaren – if they can only score 4th or 5th with a driver who has won the qualifying championship, it shows that they just don’t have their act together.

    I also like Senna’s 1000%;-)

@freelittlebirds Senna’s been disappointing of late. He used to have 1800% :P

Yes – the RB has on average of the entire season generally still not been as quick in qualifying as the McLaren has been.

Slight correction, the RB8 in Vettel’s hands has not been as quick in qualifying as the McLaren has been in Hamilton’s hands;-)

Looking at Button’s and Webber’s performance, it’s debatable that the RB8 is a faster qualifying car than the McLaren.

(Note that this comment isn’t directed at you in specific) Where was this logic when we needed it back in 2010/2011!? Finally. 2011 showed that Vettel in an RB7 is quicker in qualifying than just about anyone else in other cars, and Webber in an RB7. Also, Webber and Vettel in the RB6 were better over one lap than everyone else. In truth that’s all we can really deduce from qualifying – though everyone seems to have it in their mind that qualifying is just a sign of speed that no one argues with, and that every driver gets the maximum out of that 1 lap in qualifying.

But Occam’s Razor suggests – given that you have two top drivers, and how good and close everyone actually is in F1 – that those could be taken at face value.

Of course a better analysis would probably be to take the fastest qualifier from each team each weekend.

Thanks for the write-up all season, @raymondu999. What an amazing season of Saturdays Hamilton has had. He has always been quick, but I don’t think he’s ever been this consistently quick.
