    That’s what I’m talking about!

When you should be talking about the 6 hours of Imola.

Good win for Peugeot, was it not?

Don’t cut out the “yes” before the “that’s what I’m talking about!”, Damon. That drains all the German exotic flavour out of the statement… Tsk, tsk, tsk.

The Marseillaise was good (especially the a capella part once the music was cut off). Peugeot was ok. I’m still unsure about how I feel about the team.

I must have missed something there.. Lamy was driving a BMW? He was from Peugeot, dirving the same car as Bourdais, I think. Did he leave the team, or is this just a one time thing?

As far as I am aware he was fired at Le Mans

(although its still unofficial as far as I understand)

fired? are you sure? his wikipedia page says:
” As of present time he is still official driver for the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP in the Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”

present time means 13 June 2011 at 21:27, so after Le Mans.
I’ve been checking, and it seems he has a connection with BMW: last year he won the 24h Nurburgring with BMW, despite driving Le Mans and most of the endurance races with Peugeot. This year, again for BMW they got 2nd.

Searching on specialized forums I’ve found mostly Peugeot fans are upset with him (he spunned in Spa 1000km and Sebring 12h, I think, costing Peugeot the chance to fight for win in those races), but effectively he’s still under contract on Peugeot. I guess the team, under pressure from his supporters ended up putting him aside (he drove shorter stints on Le Mans this year than his teammates), but they don’t want to lose him for good. Remember Pedro Lamy is one of the most experienced endurance drivers out there (if not the most) and with remarkable track record (wins, podiums, etc) on endurance racing in general and Le Mans series in particular.

I agree with you, I was just repeating what they mentioned on radio le mans which is that he said he had effectively been fired in all but official words

Sometimes it seems kind of unfair the difference on treatment the media gives on the coverage of F1 and all other motorsports. Ok, F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle, etc, etc, I accept they have more coverage, preference and so on. But the difference is just to big. Race, Build up, Post-Race Commentary, Press Conference, Podium, Qualifyng (also with Build up and post commentary) and even Free Practices are not hard to find. If that’s not enough, BBC still has the F1 Forum on the Red Button. Some hours after a GP, one can find 2 or 3 torrents that download in a couple of hours.

To watch the Imola 6h one has to rely on a live stream by Audi TV, which of course has no obligation whatsoever of impartiality (even though, today’s coverage seemed more impartial than sometimes BBC F1 coverage). Any generalist or sport newspaper in the world has always one page dedicated to F1 throughout the GP weekends, whilst most of them doesn’t give a short column to show the 24h Le Mans race results.
Of course they say they give the public what the public want, but that’s a bit like the story of who come up first, the chicken or the egg..

Endurance racing is a whole different love affair from the F1 one.

I wonder if you could have a Formula 1 endurance race. Not something that goes for six hours, but maybe a 1000km race like Bathurst …

LL Jehto, the Eurosport Player usually has the Le Mans and ILMC races, but it’s a subscription-only service. It’s also possible to get free audio from Radio Le Mans. Newspaper coverage remains very low, though I’ve noticed some of the websites connected to Italian papers had stuff on the race this weekend.

I started following the Le Mans Series and its related series when Giancarlo Fisichella started racing there at the beginning of last year. It took some time to learn how the racing rhythmn worked over there, but it was well worth the time investment. It’s got to the point where I find it more fun than some of the F1 races – at least in sportscar racing, overtaking usually means something and strategies are still worthwhile.

Lamy did only one two hours stint at Le Mans and then did not drive again because he was allegedly too slow. He said afterwards “that was my last race for Peugeot”. It’s a bit unclear why he was dismissed on the spot.

  • Profile picture of LL Jehto LL Jehto said 1 year, 10 months ago:

It probably come from behind (Spa and Sebring last year). That comment probably reflects his feeling about having only one stint. But, like was said, nothing yet is definitive. Peugeot doesn’t seem eagger to let him go just yet.

Peugeot are unlikely to let Lamy go just yet because of Petit Le Mans in October. That requires 3 drivers per car. My guess is that they will want to use Pedro for the 2 hours necessary to make the team compliant with time limits, but otherwise use him as little as possible. It would not surprise me if we see Pedro loaned out to BMW more often this season, and for him to be elsewhere next year.

What Pedro said strikes me as the sort of frustrated comment one might say in the heat of the moment. The contract may not be literally over but in Pedro’s eyes the driver-team relationship underpinning it appears to have gone.

yep, it seems that way.. and if you followed Fisi’s F1 career since the beginning, I’m sure you remember who he started as teammate, no?

That would be Mr Lamy, I believe. Started following Giancarlo the Tuesday after Monaco 2001, but 1996 was the year I started seriously reading up on F1, so I remember the grid for that year quite vividly.
