That’s an expensive proposition. Potrero de los Funes needs a new pit and paddock, and there’s not really enough space in its current location. They’d have to relocate it entirely, either putting it between Turns 3 and 4, or between 8 and 9. Then they would need to make more access for the marshalls and safety vehicles, and upgrade spectator facilities.
I suppose they’re doing all that and more to Mar del Plata, but it’s still a big ask.
there’s a tiny matter of the Falklands
Why should the Falklands be of any concern to Formula 1? I can understand people being uncomfortable with the race in Bahrain, but there is no open warfare over the Falklands. Suggesting that Argentina should not have a race until it gives up its claim to the islands – which is what you suggested by terming it the “South Atlantic British Grand Prix” – reeks of imperialism.
