I rage so hard whenever these stooges have to interrupt my race.

More annoying than the three stooges is the delayed telecast of qualifying. I don’t know if it happens in every state or city in Australia, but in Brisbane it’s a real problem. Network Ten broadcast the AFL on Channel 10, One HD, and One, dedicating three seperate channels to one boring as program. After the match their football commentators yabber on analysing the boring match, meaning the telecast of F1 qualifying is delayed (sometimes by half an hour, sometimes by an hour and a half), making live timing completely useless.

Anyway I wrote a letter to Network 10 earlier in the year, suggesting things they could do keep both AFL fans, and F1 fans happy. For instance I suggested they could show the AFL on 10, and then the F1 on One, or vice versa, or maybe even they could get with the times, and do live streaming like the BBC do in the UK, and Speed do in the US. I received a response from the head of programming (I think), basically ignoring any suggestions, and saying they were doing the best they can, which they quite obiviously aren’t.

As for the three stooges, for the F1 I don’t mind Craig Braid, but can’t stand Darryl Beattie. For the Moto GP I don’t mind Darryl Beattie but can’t stand Craig Baird.

I guess they do a good-ish job for the non dedicated F1 fans.

The only problem is that the races are on so late that most people who watch them are the regular followers.

It’s a mark of just how bad things are when a motorcycle racer is the best commentator Formula 1 can get …

I still haven’t had that celebratory beer now that the Football season has finished.Seriously, the same football match on three separate channels at the same time. And now the commonwealth games on three separate channels at the same time.F1 quali telecast is delayed by an hour because of this, but at least the race seems to be live tomorrow.

What was worse was when they were doing the post AFL analysis instead of showing live quali…

Let’s be honest, AFL will trump F1 in schedules every single time because that is the nation’s biggest national sport. It’s not ideal for us, but I can completely understand it.

Although I did see a press release from TEN at my internship the other day claiming that the Belgian GP was One’s highest-rated telecast ever, which is rather interesting…

Where do you work? And when you say “highest rated” does that mean it was praised or had the most viewers of anything ever televised on the channel?

I’m interning with a local newspaper for the final year of my studies. I work somewhere completely different!

It said it was the highest rated telecast ever in terms of viewers.

Speaking of Australian sports, do any of you guys (other Australians) here watch or follow any other sports?

I hate AFL yet live in Melbourne. I grew up in Sydney yet hate Rugby League (ARL) even more. My father is big into Rugby Union and tried numerous times to get me to follow it too, but I think he gave up and he tries to follow the F1 instead.

Funny because I remember first watching it with him when I was a kid – it must have been an Adelaide race though, that’s all they would have telecast back then!

“Speaking of Australian sports, do any of you guys (other Australians) here watch or follow any other sports?”

    In order of preference:

    1. F1
    2. Soccer
    3. Moto GP
    4. NBA basketball
    5. WRC
    6. Many other forms of racing that are not shown in Australia
    7. ARL

Sports i can not stand: AFL

Sports that shouldn’t be called a sport: Golf

I dislike AFL intensely due in part to channel 7′s treatment of the V8 supertaxi’s in the past with it’s preferential treatment towards the AFL when the motor racing was on.And now that they have the rights to broadcast the Supertaxi’s again we see that not much has changed.
I guess that F1 would have to be my favorite sport with V8′s running a very distant second.

Ten losing the rights to the V8 coverage to Seven was the worst thing to ever happen to V8 Supercars in this country.

There is absolutely no reason why Network 10 could not broadcast both AFL and F1 at the same time. They managed to broadcast both the World Cycling Championships, and the Moto GP at the same time last weekend.

For me F1 is first with the V8s running 2nd, although I’m starting to lose interest in them.

I dont mind AFL. I hardly watched any games this year but I dont mind watching the occasional game mainly when Port Adelaide are playing.

During summer i dont mind the cricket although I wouldnt say Im a massive fan.

I also have a soft spot for cycling and I watch as much of the Tour de France as I can.

Yep,the Tour de France is good value, especially the mountain stages:)
