I think it’s hard to describe things as best and worst. For example, the Red Bull collision at Istanbul and Webber’s flying lesson at Valencia could hardly be described as good, but they were certainly memorable. So, here is my list of moments which I will remember 2010 for:
o Jenson Button winning for McLaren at Melbourne. Now I did not see that coming! To be honest I never expected Button to win another Grand Prix in his career, never mind the second race of his title defence.
o Sebastian Vettel’s 10. In such a competitive season, that was a quite incredible effort!
o Nico Hulkenberg’s pole at Interlagos. Perhaps THE moment of the season. One of those days of F1 I will never forget.
o Mark Webber’s shunt at Valencia. Of course, it could have been very nasty indeed, but knowing that he emerged unscathed I’d have to nominate that not only as the most spectacular crash of the season but of the last decade!
o Turkish GP. What a race! One of the best dry races in years in my opinion. People remember it for that extraordinary collision between the two Red Bull drivers, but Hamilton and Button wheelbanging just a few laps later was no less thrilling.
o Kamui Kobayashi’s Japanese GP heroics. The organisers should rename that Turn 11 hairpin ‘Kobayashi Corner’, so incredible were his numerous passes up the inside at that corner.
o Lewis Hamilton’s pass on Nico Rosberg, Australian GP. Why didn’t anyone tell Hamilton passing around the outside into the fast Turn 11 kink is simply not the done thing?! It was perhaps the most spectacular pass of his F1 career.
o Ferrari team orders at Hockenheim. Everyone else has covered this already, but I feel it deserves a mention. Undoubtedly the low point of the year
o My favourite observation of the year: Sebastian Buemi was taken out from behind by an out of control car at Turn 6 on the first lap twice in the first four races, at Albert Park and Shanghai!
