    From more recent times (and in no particular order), I like;

    Ferrari F2008
    McLaren MP4-25
    Lotus T127

    But the best of all time has got to be;

    Lotus 49. No competition.

    My opinions are…

    The Maserati 250F
    Lotus Type 49 (before the Wings were added)
    Lotus Type 79
    Renault RE20
    Williams FW14

    @S.J.M awesome cars. Maserati has to be one of my favourites and I like the 49 and Williams also. Not such a fan of the other two.

    @Pamphlet I love the MP4-23 for the same reasons. Beautiful and ferocious at the same time.

    For me, a John Player Special Lotus is as good as it gets. Gold and black… the great dark horse car (and the drivers were pretty good too).

    Andretti’s Lotus: http://image.modified.com/f/15597452/0808_sccp_08_z+lotus_78+right_side_in_motion.jpg

    Surely you have a favourite JPS Lotus though? They are all incredibly different.

    Brawn GP BGP-001 (2009)
    McLaren MP4-6 (1991)
    Lotus 98T (1986)
    Lotus 79 (1978)

    @Fixy they all look really good!

    I think the cars from about 1998-2004 had good proportions. Their wings and bodywork were simpler. The cars in the years following Senna’s death looked a bit odd as the teams got their head around the safety improvements, and the cars following Schumacher’s dominant years were a symptom of the FIA’s attempt to reduce downforce, forcing designers to use increasingly ugly solutions.

    @davids I think you’ve got that time period spot on. By 1998 the teams had got a handle on the dimensions of the cockpit safety devices so the cars started looking “correctly proportioned” again and post 2004 things got a little too crazy on the aero front.

    As for 2004, there were so many good looking cars on the grid (just saying the BAR 006, the Jaguar R5, Sauber C23, Ferrari F2004, the McLaren MP4-19 and the Jordan EJ14 gives you half the field!), it is such a pity that we all remember 2004 as the season where we all got bored because Ferrari kept on destroying the field!

    My favourite specifically from 2004, and probably the entire decade, is the Renault R24. Lovely sculpted sidepods, not too cluttered like they became soon after, and one of the first cars to really start tightening the rear.

    The 2005 McLaren MP4/20 and the 1995 Ferrari 412 T2 are two of my personal favourite cars for mainly the same reasons. Gorgeous looking, gorgeous sounding, infamously unreliable and with their drivers at the helm, extremely spectacular.

    I think you have a point @DavidS
    The lines of those cars were far better than that of today. Well balanced front and rear wings, that looked like there were designed specifically to go fast, and the body looked quite well balanced, not like it had been put on a diet lol.
    I mean even the Minardi PS02 looked tough!
