Seeing as we’ve just witnessed a brilliant grand prix at what is highly regarded as the best F1 circuit. I thought I’d find out which tv camera views bring us the best shots of the races and cars.

I love the view of the cars (particulary at the start of the race), of the cars coming off the top of Raidillon. The shot I’m talking about is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDsQ_Q7uEw8 at 0:10-0:13 &

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpbFUdSWYqk at 0:34-0:35.

What other shots from other circuits rate as the best on the calender?

I think Silverstone had A brilliant camera angle when Alonso on Hamilton were fighting.

I like ‘dramatic’ camera angles that compliment the speed of the cars. Like the one Browny said. I don’t really like that Silverstone one.

I think it was the one at the bottom of Eau Rouge that had DC jumping back from the TV!

I remember somewhere last year they had a camera in a bollard, I think it was Lewis who took it out with the nose of his car. Great final shot!!

I thought the new carmera on wires at Silverstone was Ok when you got used to it, the only problem was when the camera was on its return run it got caught in the shot from another camera it made me jump as I thought it was something on the track!

also like the rear looking cams on the cars, you can see all the suspension working , cool!

Gareth – I think the Hamilton shot was in Abu Dhabi. I think some of the best cameras are the ones that give an impression of speed, such as the ones that you see in Nascar (shudder!) which are called “Gopher Cams” or something like that, and they’re embedded in the ground/wall.

Troy Alexander beat me to it.

I can’t find a video, but there was a static camera that switched between two angles in sector three at Valencia. One second the camera was pointed at the car on the approach and the next facing towards the end of the car as it drives away.

    Thats right! Thanks James_mc.

There was a camera on a track somewhere that followed the cars as they accelerated out of a hair pin, I think it was Canada, but maybe one of the newer curcuits?

The Swimming Pool camera at Monaco is my favourite. The camera at Loews hairpin is iconic and I love it for that reason.

I used to like the head-on shot at Chateaux d’Eau when we used to go to Magny-Cours, you saw the cars dip down out of view for the Imola chicane and then re-appear!

Gareth – I’m tempted to say that there was one of them in Canada, in the turn 1-2 complex, but you might be thinking of the one in the Stadium Section at Silverstone?
