They’re not currently F1 Fanatics, but I’d like to see Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and/or Barbara Broccoli become fans of the sport. I reckon the glamour of a Grand Prix would be a fantastic backdrop for a James Bond film, and given that Craig is currently Bond and Wilson and Broccoli are the producers, they’re the ones who could make it happen.

Keith, that’s a good spot on Jonathan Ross.
It reminded me of his commentary in the part of the video covering Zanardi’s crash at “Eau Wouge”

PM, that might be the best idea I’ve heard all year.

Combining F1 and James Bond might be even more awesome than when the Reeses peanut butter cup guys combined chocolate with peanut butter!

And it could have a decent plot, too – the death of a racing engineer leads Bond to investigate the owners of the Moonraker Racing Team, which is using CFD to design their cars. The project is being subsidised by the British armed forces, who want to use CFD in the development of the next generation of fighter jets; engineers believe that the jets can be produced 80% faster and 30% cheaper than they currently are with CFD. Because of the highly-competitive nature of Formula 1, the Moonraker team will be able to develop the CFD technology faster than the likes of BAE. However, the project is being sabotaged as a part of a race-fixing ring: powerful electromagnets built into the Electronic Control Units of the cars are being used to manipulate race results by causing car failures.

Or maybe the villain just has a passion for motorsports. I could see a riff on the Goldfinger golf game with the villain challenging Bond to a race in classic Formula 1 cars – a Lotus 49 against a Ferrari 312 – at a classic car event somewhere like the old Spa circuit or Monsanto Park. Or even if the villain just goes to Monaco because of the party atmosphere; it’s a place to be seen.

SBLOT, Mugabe was probably at the Singapore GP because he travels there a lot, allegedly for prostate cancer treatment. Zanu PF adamently deny that he has any health problems though, despite the fact that it would be normal for any 87 year old to have a few health niggles.

Maybe too obvious: Nicole Scherzinger from Pussycat Dolls. But she’ probably more a fan of a certain driver, than of the sport.

I’d emphasize Eric Clapton. He’s been spotted by Martin Brundle during the grid walk on a number of occasions already.

Former athlete Michael Johnson is a fan of racing in general, including F1.

Read somewhere on the internet that Ah’nuld Schwarzennegger apparently watches each F1 GP on TV as well.

@slr: what? Keanu Reeves? Maybe it’s because he can dodge bullets and fly like superman :p.

BTW: To be a bit offtopic, I concluded that you are a fan of LP, I’m a fan of LP as well. Too bad they don’t watch F1. Eventhough they’re going to give a live show at the Singapore GP. Maybe this’ll change their minds…

@prison monkeys: Maybe a CSI episode? Or would you still go for the Bond film?

There’s already been a CSI episode involving formula racing. It guest-starred Danica Patrick. And it was horrible.

No, I’d go for a Bond film, with Bond and the villain racing each other in 1960s Formula 1 cars as a GOLDFINGER-style competition.

Another semi obvious one, Eric Bana.

He has races here in Australia when he can, including in support races for the Australian Grand Prix and in Rally events, so one would assume he would have some interest in F1.

On a side note, has anyone seen Bana’s doco ‘Love the Beast’? Its about him restoring the first car that he bought as a teenager and then racing it in the Targa Tasmania. It also stars Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno and Dr. Phil. It’s a pretty good film.. :)

Keanu Reeves was at the Chinese Grand Prix in 2007 I believe, though I’m not entirely sure if he is a full on fan. Also Linkin Park were at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last year sitting at the grandstand at the hairpin. They must have enjoyed themselves enough to want to come back.

ow really? nice, thnx for that info. Yeah they must’ve enjoyed themselves idd. Would like to know if Linkin Park watches every GP…
