Here’s a thread I’ve been meaning to put up for a while. The title’s a bit vague, so I shall explain…
We all believe we’re well acquainted with the circuits on the F1 calendar, but the reality is we only get to see them 3 days a year. Many circuits can look entirely different when the F1 circus is elsewhere. The street circuits are the obvious examples, but there are others.
Here’s an example- Eau Rouge in the winter: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/29/EauRougeInTheSnow.jpg You can still recognise it, but it looks more like a ski slope than an F1 circuit!
I’m also looking for circuits as they looked while still under construction, as well as former circuits which have been built over, or, in the case of Hockenheim, abandoned to nature: http://theracingline.net/racingcircuits/archives/Hockenheim/fb05-004.jpg
Great thread Ned, i once saw a pic og the A1-Ring before Red Bull took over ill find the link
actually his a whole website dedicated to this stuff
Great find Ollie! Avus was particularly interesting: http://www.circuitsofthepast.nl/avusenglish.html
WOW, didnt expect that, nowadays it would be hard to chose where to put DRS there :P
not to mention this one too ;)
And this one is…er…less than interesting but just in case you were wondering this is what Yas Marina pit straight looks like in April! (on my birthday infact!)
Oh no, now you’ve set me trawling through google maps trying to spot the route of the sudschleife!
Ahhh this thread is nothing without the old monza banking…
I have to admit, i never realised, until now, that the turn1 chicane is so close to the old banks
At the start I’m not sure if the real sudschleife is the main road I’ve traced or the tiny parallel one next to it. The shape is right though for the whole thing (although the bit of straight just before the 2-mile mark might be a little off).
The sad remains of Reims too http://www.pbase.com/kayjaynz/gp_circuit_reims
I hate seeing old circuits abandoned, like the Hokenheim straights
@butler_f1 it is, infact the grandstand on the inside of the first chicane is insdie the banking, was great to look at it while seeing the F1 in ’07
