@bullfrog Nearly. Montoya was not the only Columbian in F1 history, and you’re missing one other driver.
@bullfrog can have the next question but the other driver is Tomas Enge of the Czech Republic.
Thanks @anto, I’d never have got that! But I remember now he drove for Prost.
Name 3 World Champions who turned down the opportunity to drive for Ferrari, at Monaco in 1989.
(Gerhard Berger was recovering from his nasty crash at Imola)
@bullfrog Wild guess… Piquet, Rosberg and Lauda (then again, probably not Lauda)?
1 out of 3…
Not Piquet, he was driving for Lotus.
Lauda, Scheckter, Andretti
Still 1 out of 3 :)
Are we only counting drivers who were already world champions? Or can we include drivers who subsequently became WDCs?
They were all already champions. Two of the 3 have been named so far, but not at the same time…
Rosberg, Jones, Lauda?
Not Lauda (otherwise the the first post should have been ’2 out of 3′), but Andretti probably.
@sigman1998 Yes! Rosberg, Jones and Andretti all had a call from Maranello, at least they’re the only ones I’ve heard about. (I wonder if they asked Scheckter, Fittipaldi, Lauda or James Hunt as well?)
So, how many championships have been taken by both F1 and Indycar/CART champions?
(eg. Jaques Villeneuve won 1 championship in America and 1 in F1, so 2. Bourdais who raced in F1 and took 4 titles in America, doesn’t count)
I’m thinking 10 -
Fittipaldi (2+1) [estimate]
Andretti (1+2) [estimate]
Fittipaldi – 2 F1 and 1 CART
Andretti – 1 F1 and 1 CART
Mansell – 1 F1 and 1 CART
Villeneuve – 1 F1 and 1 CART
