    YEEEES!

  • Profile picture of IrishF1 IrishF1 said 7 months, 4 weeks ago:

    How many world champions have also raced at Le Mans?

  • Profile picture of OmarR-Pepper OmarR-Pepper said 7 months, 4 weeks ago:

    4 champions, Graham Hill, Mike Hawthorn, Jochen Ridnt and Phil Hill

  • Profile picture of OmarR-Pepper OmarR-Pepper said 7 months, 4 weeks ago:

    5, add Jacques Villeneuve who raced but didn’t win Lemans

  • Profile picture of IrishF1 IrishF1 said 7 months, 4 weeks ago:

    @omarr-pepper No it was more than 5.

    Wasn’t a modified Le Mans used as an F1 track one year? I assume you mean the 24 hour though.

    I imagine most of the champions pre-1990 raced it at some point in time. I know Alan Jones did in the 80s, I think Hulme did when he first moved to Europe. Fangio was one of the cars around the 1955 crash, so he’s been there too. As a rank guess therefore, I’m going to say 16 just because it’s half of 32.

    @toro-stevo
    They raced on Bugatti Circuit at the 1967 French Grand Prix

    Though calling the Bugatti Circuit a modified Circuit de la Sarthe is a bit of an overstatement, the circuits share 5 corners if you’re being generous.

    Wasn’t aware of the difference, as I’m not too familiar with the Bugatti circuit. But looking it up the difference is quite clear.

    @toro-stevo I’ll give you that, it was actually 19 so you were very close. The champions that raced at Le Mans were: Farina, Fangio, Ascari, Hawthorn, Brabham, Phil Hill, Graham Hill, Clark, Surtees, Hulme, Rindt, Andretti, Jones, Piquet, Rosberg, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher, Damon Hill and Villeneuve.

    Cheers. I just gave up guessing and just looked it up on wiki this morning before checking here. No Stewart though, he seems to have raced in 1965?

    I haven’t been keeping up with questions, so forgive if a repeat. Barring those countries which have only been represented by one driver (i.e. Kubica with Poland), which country has the highest proportion of race winners to competing drivers (i.e. 1 in 4 is 25%)

    Hmm. I’m going to take an educated stab at Columbia.

    I figure that there was another Colombian or two, therefore giving a win ratio of 33.33% – 50%?

  • Profile picture of IrishF1 IrishF1 said 7 months, 4 weeks ago:

    @toro-stevo Yes I missed Stewart so 20 champions competed at Le Mans. :P
    As for your question I think it’s Finland with 4 out of 8 (that I can think of), making it 50%? If that’s right I won’t be able to post a question until tomorrow at about 4:30 p.m. so someone else can take it.

  • Profile picture of Toro Stevo Toro Stevo said 7 months, 3 weeks ago:

    @irishf1
    Yes it is Finland, exactly 4 out of 8.

    Well I see nobody else has layed claim to the next question so here goes:
    What’s the most amount of championships won by someone while driving for Williams?

  • Profile picture of Toro Stevo Toro Stevo said 7 months, 3 weeks ago:

    I’m going to say Piquet won it twice with them, although I’m not entirely sure if it was twice with Williams or Brabham.
