Who are the only drivers to have raced against both Mario and Michael Andretti in F1?

@anto Nelson Piquet, Riccardo Patrese, and… Jan Lammers?

I just finished watching the 1982 FIA review again (Clive James is brilliant) so this should help. Mario appeared in the last few races that year, and Michael only raced 1993. Looking at the 1993 list of drivers, Prost, Alboreto, Patrese, de Cesaris and Warwick all appeared in the 1982 review. Can’t remember Alliott being mentioned, but he may have been there as well.

@toro-stevo The first five you mentioned were correct, Alliot didn’t make his debut until 1984 with RAM, however the next question is now yours!

Tom Pryce and Mike Spence the only two drivers to accomplish which particular (odd?) feat?

  • Profile picture of Bullfrog Bullfrog said 6 months, 1 week ago:

They both won the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch, and that was their only Formula 1 victory because they never won a world championship Grand Prix. I thought there were more drivers who did that (such as Chris Amon) – but that’s my guess.

    @Bullfrog
Basically, yes. The only two winners of the Race of Champions round at Brands Hatch who didn’t win a championship F1 race. It wasn’t Mike Spence’s only non-champ F1 victory though, as he also won the 1966 South African GP. As you said lots of other drivers (like Chris Amon) also won other non-championship rounds without netting a championship round win, but was looking for the Brands Hatch race only. As a side note Danny Sullivan of Indy fame almost got on that list, his best result under F1 rules was second at the last edition of this race.

    So next question is yours.

Who were the last 3 Ferrari reserve drivers to stand on the podium?

  • Profile picture of Nicholas Sunderland Nicholas Sunderland said 6 months, 1 week ago:

    Salo, Tambay, and somebody.

  • Profile picture of Nicholas Sunderland Nicholas Sunderland said 6 months, 1 week ago:

And the third one… Mario Andretti?

  • Profile picture of Bullfrog Bullfrog said 6 months, 1 week ago:

@brazil2007 You’ve got two of them. I’m not counting Tambay as he became a full-time driver, and stayed on for the whole of 1983.
There’s another guy, in between Andretti and Salo…

I believe it’s Nicola Larini. If I’m correct, then Nicholas Sunderland may have my go.

  • Profile picture of Bullfrog Bullfrog said 6 months, 1 week ago:

Yes it was Larini, standing in for Jean Alesi at Imola in 1994. Your go then, @brazil2007

In the late 60s, Enzo Ferrari said that there were three drivers he’d compare to the great Nuvolari. One was Fangio, another Moss. Who was the third (hint: raced pre-1950)?
