Guess: The 1st place in most podiums?

  • Profile picture of andae23 andae23 said 4 months ago:

@sigman1998 No, though it has to do with the number of podium places of a certain team.

Something easy… When did Firestone score their last F1 victory as a tire supplier? (Year, race, and who drove the car)

1972 Italian Grand Prix on the Lotus 72D of Emerson Fittipaldi.

Sorry for not replying earlier. According to Wikipedia 155 Americans have driven in F1. How many of those competed in a race other than the Indy 500?

  • Profile picture of the_sigman the_sigman said 4 months ago:

Speed, Andretti (Michael, Mario), Phill Hill, Cheever, Penske and Gartner are the first to come in mind.

@sigman1998 I’m afraid there were far more than that! :)

Since this thread appears to be dying with no recent response in 5 days, can I begin with another question to spark up the conversation again?

In the official FIA 2012 calendar, out of the 20 circuits that were raced on, which track(s) has/have a certain sector where all corners go in the same direction?

Eg. — One answer could be, say, the “middle sector of Shanghai”, but that would be incorrect since that sector has both left and right turns.

The final sector of Bahrain – all the corners are right-handers.

In addition to prisoner monkeys’ answer, I think the last sector at Interlagos is all left. Not sure about Monza, from memory the last sector starts before the Ascari chicane.

Also, while the question appears to be dead now, in addition to what sigman said, I can think of Gurney, Donahue, Bobby Rahal (I think), Revson, Ginther, and Sullivan. I’m sure there are more obscure ones though.

Sector question (apart from Bahrain and Interlagos):
    - Spa’s S1 these days, as the two left-handers at Eau Rouge and Raidillon are not real corners, that leaves us just with La Source and the “real”, right-hander part of Eau Rouge.
    - Also, pushing it, India’s S1, if you ignore the slight left between T1 and T3.

Just to answer the question I posted, a total of 54 Americans have attempted a Grand Prix. 47 of them started a Grand Prix and 2 were also Indy 500 drivers in the ’50s (Troy Ruttman and Rodger Ward)
