Hi guys. Whose helmet, past and present is your favourite? This can include other disiplines apart from F1.
Certainly in the 90’s I liked Hills and Coulthards because they stood out and meant something, Hill as it was the same as his fathers and Coulthard due to it representing his nationality. I liked Buttons pre pink helmet for that too.
    Over to you.

I always liked Johnny Herbert’s, using stripes in a distinctive but unusual way …

    I also liked Eddie Cheever’s stars-and-stripes treatment …

And Jean Alesi’s when he had a mirrored background …

It’s hard to single out one helmet, but I’ll mention a few that I really like.

    – Niki Lauda’s Parmalat Helmet
    – Robert Kubica’s 2011 Helmet
    – Jean Eric Vergne’s Cevert and Alesi Helmet Remakes (I just prefer the designs on the newer helmets with better quality and all)

David Coulthard’s pre-red Bull helmet was my favorite, so much so that I painted my own helmet in his colours when I was racing BMX in my youth. I am biased though being Scottish. ;)

More recently I have loved Valtteri Bottas’ 2013 helmet and Kamui Kobayashi’s 2011 effort.

I agree there are some fantastic helmet deigns, but it is really frustrating to me when drivers keep changing designs mid season or race by race. It’s hard at times to tell drivers apart sometimes

Schumis helmet was iconic before it went all red

Wurz had a good helmet too if I remember correctly

I too liked the Schumachers blue top with the stars. I didn’t like the change to red. Can’t believe that was so long ago already.

I prefer helmets from the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s, the simpler the better. Nowadays they all seem a bit homogeneous, they’re either covered in sponsorship (Yes I’m talking about you Red Bull) or really complicated with no empty space which bores me. I like simpler, more classic designs. I really liked Barrichello’s original helmet. Other favourites of mine would be Jean Alesi, Gerhard Berger, Damon Hill, Senna, Prost and Mika Hakkinen. In the main I don’t really like the way modern helmets are designed. I probably like Massa’s the best of the current drivers. Bottas’s helmet posted above is really nice though, reminds me of both Prost’s and Hakkinen’s.

    I have a tie between 2:
    Irvine and his Jaguar.
Raikkonen during his McLaren years (the black and red one)

Agree with you @debaser91 – the last 5/8 years has seen helmets become random swirls of colour, changing by the race and if not, by the season. In the 80s/90s I could recognise every drivers helmet, now I’m struggling with most of them. Adding to the minute race numbers, how are we supposed to tell who is who?

I always liked Webber’s helmet, the ratio of the colors clicked for me, I guess it’s my favorite.

Apart from it I like the designs of Alesi, Bottas, Button, Cevert, Räikkönen (mostly the 2012 one).
As for one-offs, Vergne’s 2013 Singapore helmet was probably the coolest, glowing in the dark as well

Jean Alesi’s design (and by proxy, Elio de Angelis’) has always been my favorite and I used to base my helmet livery in games on his.

I’ve always quite liked Jos Verstappen’s helmet design, as it uses the red white and blue in a manner that was busy in the 90s, but looks simple and effective today.

Sauber’s current line up probably has the best lids so far of 2015, clean lines and bright colors. I’m also partial to Hulkenberg’s and Bottas’ designs of the current grid.

Overall, with drivers more and more encapsulated in the cockpit and designs becoming more busy, the design of a driver’s helmet does feel a little less important to me.

    There’s quite a few that I like so I don’t have a personal favourite:

The only one of Kimi’s helmets I actually like is the one he wore in 2003.

The same goes for Alonso, his helmet design got busier and busier with each year that passed. I like the 2005 version, it was simple but affective.

Button’s Helmet in 2009 just looked awesome with the car.

Finally Barrichello’s 2011 Brazil Senna Tribute. I practically love all of Ruben’s lids but this one just oozes cooleness.
