    The ’79 French Grand Prix might not have been the best overall race (unless you were a Renault or turbo fan), but it might be the most exciting wheel-to-wheel multi-lap combat that F1 has ever seen!
    Most of us didn’t care that Jean Pierre Jabouille was a mile ahead; even the French TV gave the Turbo Renault’s 1st win a passing mention before jumping back to the battle for 2nd between Giles Villenueve and Rene Arnoux.

    @Pamphlet

    Turkey 2010 or Turkey 2009? I gather you’re talking about 2010, because I can’t remember Mark saying anything in 2009.

    Anyway, how does the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix relate to that remark? The thing I think people forget too readily is that Sebastian Vettel was… well, he wasn’t a very nice person after that collision. At all. It was his fault, which I’m sure everyone knows, but his gesture was very unkind and something that had the same effect you described as happening when Webber made his Silverstone ’10 comments on me. I’d really liked Vettel up until that point, but I think it was pretty embarrassing for F1 that we had someone engaging in NASCAR-style outbursts.

    My point is, Mark Webber was a victim in that accident, and Sebastian Vettel basically called him a lunatic in front of a few hundred million people. The fact Mark ever forgave Sebastian for that is, in my opinion, very mature. There was nothing that said he had to do that, and Mark could well have kept it going and turned it into a feud. Sebastian never said (publicly, at least) that he was sorry for causing the crash, nor did he apologise for his gestures, but somehow it didn’t turn into a civil war. I’m not sure if the tabloids would agree with me, but I really love it when drivers get along, so I’m very happy that they sorted it out.

    So why were you upset with Mark over Turkey 2010? And how did that relate to his remarks in Silverstone? And you’ve already said that you didn’t like what he said, but I was asking why? To me, it looks like you’re searching for reasons to dislike Mark, so prove me wrong!

    @damonsmedley I guess that’s why he said he was upset with Turkey 2009 and not 2010 then? Turkey 2009 Mark benefitted from team orders; I think that’s what @Pamphlet is saying.

    There were 2 or 3 radio messages, “Sebastian, save your car. Mark is faster. Save your car.”

    @raymondu999 I didn’t even remember that, but I’ve just checked YouTube, and you’re right, although I can only find one. Why was Mark faster? Again, it annoys me when RBR have little digs at Ferrari about team orders when they’ve done just as much — if not more — in the past few years.

    @damonsmedley he wasn’t. Seb was pumping fastest lap after fastest lap at that point, almost a second faster if I remember correctly. He (Mark) however was indeed ahead (in P2) of Sebastian (in P3).

    Being a Seb fan since 2003 it just disheartened me that the team were so blatantly favoring Mark that weekend. Every sane team put their cars on a 2-stop, and Mark was. Seb was (for some weird reason) put on a 3-stop, which ultimately cost him that P2 slot. Not to mention it was only two races after Brawn had the exact same situation – favoring Button with a 2 stop (which all the sane teams did) while Barrichello had a 3-stopper on his hands. In overtake-free Barcelona, mind you.

    @raymondu999 Weird. Basically the same as Silverstone 2011, in that case. I think they came into F1 and tried to be popular, but over the years, they’ve really lost me as a fan.

    Brazil 08…first race I ever watched. Didn’t really know about Hamilton and what had happened the year before because it didn’t get a lot of coverage in Ireland. My f1 loving uncle was over and that is the only reason I watched the race. It was unbelievable!!! Was gutted for Massa cos I wanted him to win but it got me into f1 and haven’t looked back…. Also Canada 2011 obviously

    My favourites:
    Spa 1992: a really tactical race. It started to rain on about lap 4 causing all the front runners to pit for wets, all except Senna who stayed out on slicks. It turned out to be the wrong decision, and Schumacher ended up taking his first win.

    Suzuka 2005: absolutely awesome watching Alonso and Kimi come through the field. Kimi’s move on Fisi on the last lap was the perfect Hollywood ending.

    Mexico 1990: Alain Prost’s greatest race. He climbed up from 13th on the grid to win. The main reason I picked this one though is because of that stupefying move from Mansell at Berger’s expense through the Peraltada. The phrase “balls of steel” doesn’t quite do it justice!

    Adelaide 1986: the most dramatic title decider of all time surely. Famous for Mansell’s spectacular tyre failure. Prost stealthily went on to claim his second consecutive world title. A tragic moment for Mansell fans!

    Canada 2011: one of the greatest drives of all time by none other than Jenson Button. Watching him go from dead last to passing Vettel on the second to last lap had me jumping for joy.

    Nurburgring 2007: absolutely mental race! I was shocked to watch so many cars slide off in the rain at turn 1. Amazing drive by Alonso, overtaking the struggling Massa in the last few laps to take a fantastic victory. Also famous for the fact that debutante Markus Winkelhock actually led the race for roughly a lap at the restart!

    Brazil 2008 – If they made a movie about F1 and the guy won the championship in the final corner of the final race on the final lap you’d say it was ridiculous. I was at the Pub watching it and my heart was about to burst, I was up on my feet shouting at the TV, it was an incredible final few laps.

    China 2011 – Years I’d heard about ‘the good old day’ and this race made me think how lucky I am to be watching F1 in this era. The race was absolutely crazy and rules made for a race that was pure excitement all the way through. The top 7 positions all changed within the last 5 or so laps. The best Grand Prix I’ve ever seen.

    Indy 500 2011 – I will never forget that last lap. Watching back now I get goosebumps hearing Dan’s team radio when he wins. At the time I was so gutted for Hildebrand but because of what happened later in the year I’m really glad it ended that way.

    The 1987 British GP at Silverstone. Mansell a handful of seconds behind Piquet pitted for new tyres with 28 laps to go and came out 29s seconds behind him. In the remain laps Mansell broke the lap record 11 times until with just 2 laps to go he sold Piquet a dummy as they came down the Hanger Straight to take the lean.
    UK based fantics can watch the BBC highlights programme here:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8102079.stm

    The 1985 San Marino GP at Imola. A race that sticks in my mind due to the dramatic closing laps. First Senna leading runs out of fuel and is passed by Stefan Johansson in only his 2nd race for Ferrari. The crowd go wild only for 1/2 a lap later Johansson to also run out of fuel. As he’s slows Post takes the lead and goes on to cross the line in 1st. He then run out of fuel on the run-down lap and is later disqualified leaving Elio de Angelis to claim his final GP win. On top of all this there’s Thierry Boutsen pushing his car over the line to ultimately claim 2nd place

    You can watch the final laps here:

    And if we’re including non-F1 races there’s always the last race of the 1992 BTCC championship held at Silverstone. Video of the last few laps here.

    Monza 1963, Spa 1963, Suzuka 2005, 1983 Monaco, 1984 Dallas GP, Spain 1996, China 2007, Monza 2008, 2009 Silverstone, Monaco 2011, and South Africa 1985
    Why:
    Monza 1963: complete driving inspiration by Clark. Never saw the rtace, but was captivated by the stories of what happened.
    Spa 1963: Complete dominance by Clark: after 17 laps, leading by 5mins!!!!!!!!
    Suzuka 2005: Raikkonens overtake on Fisichella at turn 1 was awesome
    Monaco 1983: Rosberg had a virus, and I think I’m right in saying he threw up halfway through, and he still won the race. Those drifts were awesome as well
    Dallas 1984: Rosberg kept it on the island, whilst what seemed like everyone else fell off.
    Spain 1996: beautiful driving by Schumi. Superb car control
    China 2007: Raikkonens brilliance, and Vettelsfight from 17th to 4th place. was incredibly exciting
    Monza 2008: brilliant victory by vettel, but also exciting to see hamilton and Raikkonens fightback through the field.
    Silverstone 2009: Domination by Vettel; was untouchable
    Monaco 2011: The final 3-way fight for the lead was captivating to watch; ever so tense
    1985 South Africa: Rosbergs determination to win in the final laps was incredible to see; you could see that he was on a knife edge, with the rear end sliding around all over the place; setting lap record after lap record.

    Sorry the list is so full, but just goes to show how many brilliant F1 races there have been.

    For me… almost all WET RACES.. hahaha.. I agree with Bernie, let’s wet the track.. hahah I’m kidding..
    Monaco 1984: Senna and Bellof coming from behing in a chaotic wet race;
    Jerez 1985: Mansell and Senna absolutely crazy finish;
    Suzuka 1988: Senna wins his first championship after falling in the start to 12th place…
    Monaco 1992: Mansell and Senna again fight through the end;
    Donington Park 1993: Senna overtaking 5 in the first lap including two dominant Williams on a wet track;
    Germany 2000: Barrichello stayed on wet track with dry tyres and wins for the first time after crazy race (rain and dude on the track); It reminds me that, when someone crazy enters the track, Barrichello wins.. (Silverstone 2003) he should use this tatics more.. hahahaha…
    Interlagos 2008: Massa wins and was champion for few seconds, then Hamilton overtakes Glock in the last few corners to get his deserved title, what a RACE ….

    Montreal 2008 is my favorite race, just for its sheer silliness–I couldn’t keep a straight face telling my sisters (who missed it) how it went. Brazil 2008 was probably the best race i’ve ever seen, but that’s something different.
    I’m still kicking myself for missing Montreal last year. I had an unavoidable conflict, and I meant to torrent it after the race but I couldn’t find a torrent (because the race hadn’t ended yet, which I didn’t know because I was trying to not find out what happened…)

    I think the best race I’ve seen (thre might be plenty of good ones to see) was Spa 2004 when Kimi won the race… the only one he could snatch from MSC. Another very special one when Kimi won Suzuka 2005
