Well my family knows that when my room’s door is close what I do behind it,secondly I always keep my phone off sometimes silent, many people still don’t know what I do on Sunday & Saturday when they can’t reach me,sometimes even from work they scream at me! But hey who cares???

My friends know better than to invade my F1.

    YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE! MUAHAHA.

I agree with Keith, best be straight. If they don’t like it, tough.

I agree with everyone being up straight about it. And trying to tell the world you will be watching up front is great to get talking.

Everyone I know expects me to be watching F1 regularly, and some of them even ask and watch at least the results etc. out of interest. My son sometimes looks with me and my wife likes watching some of te races as well (ironing with F1 beats ironing with some soap series or politics on tv, right!)

Personally, I’ve found that learning to foam at the mouth on command is very useful in this situation. Or marrying someone who likes F1 as well.

My lady has watched it with me in the past.

She even picked up on the scandal of Germany 2010 before I did!

@plushpile I’m in your boat. It’s mostly late night races when the family’s asleep.

Time-shift has been my life saver for when one of the kids wakes up and needs to be taken back to bed. A couple of times last year my daughter woke up came into the lounge and went to sleep next to me on the couch while watching the race! In the morning she’d always ask me if Webber won the race ;)

I found the best method with my girlfriend: Get them into F1!

That way, she is just as bothered about watching as I am (more so at times), so we don’t allow interruptions.

However, this did nearly bite me in the arse. When it was announced F1 was going to Sky, I told her straight out I wasn’t going to be paying for Sky Sports. Her response was “You got me into F1, you’re paying!”

Luckily we already have Sky HD so we don’t have to pay extra (yet).

“Ehm remember that time I had to go to the drugs detoxification centre because I consumed 3 pounds of cocain a day? Yep, it’s either that or ehm… you could let me watch Formula 1 without being disturbed…”

F1 is not everything so I understand that sometimes I have to sacrifice my love for it. My family generally understands and supports my addiction but sometimes they want me to help them in something during the commercial breaks or so. Of course, sometimes helping them takes a bit longer than originally planned.

If you feel you get interrupted too often then you should talk about that openly (I’ve done it a couple of times). I believe your friends, parents etc. will most likely accept that you could do a lot of exciting and / or necessary things together before / after the race but not in the middle of it.

An advice to those who have difficulties with making their girlfriends understand their passion: Get a boyfriend. Men are usually more keen on motorsports than women, ain’t they? If this strategy sounds too aggressive, then try to find a girl who’s into motorsports…
