Yes, but we don’t know about the Sauber team’s technical strength, post-Key. Newey’s RBR team, Oatley’s McLaren team, Fry/Tombazis’ Ferrari team are all proven and known quantities.

Willem is a tried and trusted name – but Matt Morris has never had much recognition to my memory.

Willem Toet is hardly new to the scene though. I think they’ve as good a chance of getting it right as anyone else :)

@keithcollantine the data sheet hamilton posted doesnt contain anything “secret” i remember during the 2008 or 2009 season you could view exactly that same data and compare their laps on the Ferrari web site! dont know if the feature is still there but i remember comparing raikkonen and massa laps around melbourne. with exactly the same data (speed, gears, throtle)

teams already have this information from gps, i remember John Booth saying that they exactly knew where they where slower than other teams from gps data. so its not such a big deal like everyone is claiming.

in fact you could get this data from the tv graphics on the onboard lap!

@joac21 It’s not so much the graph, as the setup info on top left IMO

@raymondu999 top left its not setup info, its the numerical values of the graph in the point in wich the vertical line (or cursor) is placed

So Hamilton was effectively 0.4s quicker than Button

No, that means Button was quicker in sector 1 and 3 with all the straights (low downforce) and Hamilton was faster in sector 2 with the fast corners (high downforce), but Button gained more on the straitghs than Hamilton in the corners.

Interesting… Are tensions building amongst the two drivers?

    Im not so sure:

“We work so hard to improve the car and keep things like that secret and private,” the 2009 World Champion told The Guardian.

Im not really familiar with the media in the UK, but I often read false or distorted quotes in the Sun, Daly Mirror, Guardian ect.

Also even if the quotation is exact, I think he answered a question, like How do you feel about Lewis’ sunday morning actions? And he gave the right answer, as he made the least damage with this. A ‘no comment’ would have been nice at first, than all journalist would have try to work out why he didnt answer, thus hyping up the whole matter, but if he says he is angry, or he doesnt care, than all the fans would jump to kill.

So maybe the journos try to make a tension between them.

I don’t know if you could call it tension – Button doesn’t seem like the kind of person to hold a grudge. After all, he describes himself as “disappointed” and says that there was nothing personal in it, so there is no reason to get angry. And he’s right. Hamilton didn’t post that read-out because he wanted to ruin Button’s race. He probably just thought his followers would be interested to know how the two McLarens shaped up over the course of a single lap, and it never occurred to him that he was giving away trade secrets.

Of course, it’s easy to write this off as McLaren being in damage control mode, but I’ve always felt that Button is pretty honest about these things. He doesn’t go around boasting about how he’s a straight-shooter, but he’s pretty frank. He is, however, aware of intra-team politics, and he has the sense not to put his foot in his mouth by talking about the team’s reaction to it.

@bag0 The Guardian isn’t in the same bracket as the Daily Mirror or Sun.

And I agree that Button is just saying it like it is, but I doubt there is much long-term tension unless Hamilton started making a habit out of leaking sensitive information.

The fact that it has the parts of the lap where Hamilton is slower highlighted in red pen kind of makes me think it’s less to do with him giving his followers insight and more to do with his frustration at losing so much lap time to Button because of car setup.

That’s how I read it too; Hamilton was frustrated by his lack of pace in qualifying and, in the heat of the moment, decided to show people the telemetry as a way of saying “Hey, look, I wasn’t slow – Jenson was faster than me because of the speed down the straights because he had the low drag wing”. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it making excuses, as ti’s a totally valid point, but it does seem that he was concerned that people might think that Button had simply been faster purely because of driving talent, rather than the setup differences in the cars.

The Guardian isn’t in the same bracket as the Daily Mirror or Sun.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Guardian made a spelling mistake that completely changed the meaning of what was said. After all, there’s a reason why they’re known as The Grauniad – they once mis-spelled their own name.

ya know what? posting that chart should and would get you fired from nearly any job on this planet. seriously, what a tremendously stupid thing to do. i think his management has doomed this guy, especially since he doesn’t have many good places to go once he’s done burning down ron dennis’ house. f1 drivers are not pro soccer players.

I think Hamilton and his management are just trying to make the best of a bad situation, particularly with these Mercedes rumours. Hamilton has a very weak bargaining position because McLaren know they are the best team for him. In order to get the best deal for him, XIX Management are undoubtedly using whatever leverage they can find to try and restore some balance to the equation.
