Meh. I usually sleep at 6PM when there’s such a race. Then I wake up at 12:30AM (when Brazil and Canada start at 1AM, where I am).

Of course after the race I have a hell of a hard time washing away the “jet”lag.

Actually I just thought of one. I have a copy of a lot of old races, and I like to rewatch them. Watching the 2nd or 3rd time, you always pick things and strategy up you missed the first time, and the lack of any result on the line really allows you to just relax and enjoy.

Now I sometimes watch these in bed before sleep – sometimes drifting to sleep in the middle. Now it seems the roar of F1 engines has a lullaby effect on me. I find it very difficult to stay awake until the end of races. Sigh…

@kingshark weaving on road tyres isn’t a very good idea…

    1) F1 has definitely helped me improve my english! I had never used so much a foreign language in my every day life before being a F1 Fanatic and nowadays I don’t even have to study for my English tests, either the ones on the public school or the FCE exam I’ll have in a week.

    2) It has also helped me forget and hide from some troubles in my life. It’s my way of getting out of this world and just abstract from everything that worries me. Unfortunately I have been using this side of my F1 fanatism too often these times.

    1) An obvious improvement in english language
    2) My career has been influenced significantly by F1 and motorsports in general (I’m studying to become a race engineer)
    3) Since my dad got me into this, it has given me wonderful moments with him.
    4) I feel weird everywhere because I scream for a great overtake just like most men in my country scream for a goal (motorsport here is highly unpopular, and the fact that F1 races are broadcasted for free doesn’t help). In fact, F1 and motorsport is for me a passion as big as football for most men. I told my girlfriend that, and she LOL’d ;)

like my uncle with his massive satellite dish for soccer back in the day, the dilemma is: do i sleep and get up early, or stay up super late? usually early doesn’t work out so now i just stay up. i’m the first to pass out after sunday dinner.

    Got one more.

My uni notebooks are all full of F1 drawings… little F1 cars from different eras that I draw on pencil at one corner of the paper. My mates always laugh when I ask them what the heck the teacher was talking about, as I was too distracted drawing little F1 cars.

When I hear a year or see a year written in a sentance I subconsciously think of the driver’s champion of that year.

Strangely enough, same here. I just think that it’s easier to connect to the year that way. I guess it’s just being a fan of Formula One for too long. :P

Same) As many of you I’m improving my language skills (at least I think I’m improving))). Here in Ukraine we almoust can’t see F1 on TV, so ukrainian F1-fans consider other ways) I watch F1 on Sky and have to translate everything for my mom and sis.
Another…mmm…advantage is that I learn great history of racing. And the last is that sport (as a notion and a sort of occupation) becomes very important for me. I love riding bicycle, cart, etc. ’cause I would prefer to be sporty. PS: besides, I’m proud to be part of great community of F1-fans) Kind regards.

@calum I do the same, and if someone asks me when something happened, I immediately think of what was going on in F1 at that time, and work it out from there

Back in 2009 when I really got into F1 I was immediately hooked. Year on year I used to go to a music festival as my ‘holiday’ for that year, however, from 2010 onwards I decided that I was bored by the thought of music festivals do decided to follow the F1 circus around Europe. So far I’ve been to Silverstone and Monza.

I used to consider myself a huge, huge music fan but my passion for that has since been dwarfed for a love of motorsport, which speaks to me in many ways that music never did.

How has F1 affected my life? Well it’s made me considerably poorer for a start and my weekends revolve almost entirely around whatever motor racing is on.

  • Profile picture of duncanmonza duncanmonza said 11 months, 3 weeks ago:

Ah yes, not being able to do anything on weekends when motorsport is on. Not many people understand that.
A couple of years ago, I couldn’t go para-sailing with my friends because they had organised it for Bathurst day.

F1 was the only thing I knew when I was little I could say Schumacher and Hakkinen before I could do 4 add 4. The first ever computer game I bought was F1 99 with Schuey, Alesi and Hakkinen and I played it every day, I used to make my mum tape every race on video now I just record on freeview, but I see F1 as an escape from life and my own demons, Its one of the things I enjoy and I see it as an escape into a bubble and I just relax for 2 hours or more I just luv it.
