So, I’m sure many of you have heard of this already but I thought I’d mention it here as it’s now hit F1. Felipe Massa has already done one (check his Twitter/Instagram) and he’s nominated Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso. I thought we could use this thread as a place to post videos of Ice Bucket Challenges done by members of the F1 community, and that includes us! If anyone here has done one feel free to post. After all, this is all for a brilliant cause :-)

20th August 2014, 18:34 at 6:34 pm #270839MazdaChrisParticipantMaybe this is a stupid question, but how does pouring cold water on your head help any cause?
20th August 2014, 18:37 at 6:37 pm #270840Keith CollantineKeymasterI have the same question as @MazdaChris!
20th August 2014, 18:52 at 6:52 pm #270842Bradley DowntonParticipant@MazdaChris @keithcollantine The idea is simply to raise awareness by doing something weird, random and a little bit stupid, just like the bare face selfies that went around social media earlier this year. And because it is so odd, it’s catching a lot of people’s attention. This came from America and is raising awareness for the ALS Association (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as motor neurone disease. The idea being that if you do you challenge you donate $10, and if you don’t do it, you donate $100. It’s been pretty successful so far, raising over $15m! Read here for more information.
Here in the UK the challenge is generally being done for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, but can also be done for Macmillan Cancer Support.
20th August 2014, 19:04 at 7:04 pm #270844David-AParticipant@bradley13 Isn’t this similar to that “neknomination” thing from a few monhs ago?
20th August 2014, 19:14 at 7:14 pm #270845Bradley DowntonParticipant@david-a – No, completely different. Neknominate was a stupid dangerous idea where people just dared each other to drink ridiculous things for no reason whatsoever. This is helping raise awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/motor neurone disease and in turn raise money.
Here’s the video of how it all started, I’d urge you all to take a watch:
20th August 2014, 21:13 at 9:13 pm #270852MazdaChrisParticipantHelping raise awareness by not mentioning it once….
20th August 2014, 21:32 at 9:32 pm #270853Magnificent GeoffreyParticipantI’ve heard a lot about ALS just from these videos and even Webber’s video quite clearly mentions ‘ALS’ in the title.
20th August 2014, 22:14 at 10:14 pm #270854Bradley DowntonParticipantExactly @magnificent-geoffrey. Though I have to say @MazdaChris does have half a point. A number of people have done it and not mentioned ALS at all, which does kind of defeat the point, but there are more that do mention it.
20th August 2014, 22:30 at 10:30 pm #270855Keith CollantineKeymasterOthers getting in on the act:
@f1fanatic_co_uk @realTimoGlock did it too
— Markus (@MarkusVOF) August 20, 2014
@f1fanatic_co_uk @mazzou Barrichello has done it as well. Ricciardo has like 3 nominations. Alonso has been nominated too
— Daniel Wand (@DanielWand2) August 20, 2014
20th August 2014, 22:51 at 10:51 pm #270858Bradley DowntonParticipantI know Ricciardo is waiting to be re-united with Red Bull in Belgium to do his, so you know it’ll be awesome! I have to say though, I’ve mainly only seen ‘celebrities’ do it, would be nice if some everyday people got nominated to get involved too.
20th August 2014, 23:02 at 11:02 pm #270859Little_M_LoParticipantI’m gonna film myself doing it even thiugh its winter here in Australia :p
20th August 2014, 23:09 at 11:09 pm #270860Bradley DowntonParticipant@pezlo2013 But to be fair, your Winter is as warm as our summer! Haha. I looke forward to seeing your nominations :-P
