Chatting away on twitter about F1 teams and as its an agonising amount of time to the next GP got me wondering what is everyone ideal grid?
If you can bring any teams back to from a 26 car field, 2 cars per team who would you choose?
Mine would be
1. Ferrari – Gilles and Alain Prost
2. Williams – Nigel Mansell and Didier Peroni
3. Mclaren – Ayrton Senna and Keke Rosberg
4. Lotus (the real one, not these 2 fakes this season) Grahem Hill and Jim Clark
5. Minardi – Pierluigi Martini and Sebastian Vettel
6. Brabham – Nelson Piquet and Elio de Angelis
7. Tyrrell – Jackie Stewart and Francais Cevert
8. Arrows – Riccardo Patrese and Mika Hakkinen
9. March – Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson
10. Vanwall – Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn
11. Maserati – Juan Manuel Fangio and Fernando Alonso
12. Alfa Romeo – Andrea De Cesaris and Jean Alesi
13. Hesketh – James Hunt and Juan Pablo Montoya

18th April 2011, 21:51 at 9:51 pm #167289Ned FlandersParticipantI suggest we open the thread up to ideal F1 grids of drivers as well as teams, otherwise we’re all going to run out quite quickly.
Anyway, to do things a bit differently, I’ve came up with a rejects grid. Not neccessarily the worst teams ever, just teams I feel would belong in this championship…
1) Penske
2) Hispania
3) Jaguar
4) Andrea Moda
5) Life
6) British American Racing
7) Super Aguri
8) Minardi
9) Spyker
10) Arrows
11) Simtek
12) Leyton House
13) Prost
I think British American Racing and Jaguar would assume the position of top dogs, with Prost and Arrows challenging for podiums and occasional wins. Then there’d be an almighty midfield battle between the others

19th April 2011, 1:07 at 1:07 am #167293robbiepblakeParticipantCan it be any drivers in any team, or does each team have to have drivers who are / were in those teams?
Ferrari – M. Schumacher and Mansell
Williams – Prost and D. Hill
McLaren – A. Senna and Hamilton
Lotus – Clark and G. Hill
Mercedes – Hakkinen and N. Rosberg
Tyrrell – Stewart and Scheckter
Brawn – Button and Barrichello
Red Bull – Vettel and Coulthard
Renault – Alonso and Arnoux
Benetton – Herbert and Brundle
Brabham – Piquet and Lauda
Honda – J. Villeneuve and Raikkonen
Maserati – Fangio and K. Rosberg
Jokey one:
USF1 – Sebastian Loeb and Danica Patrick

Half the teams can’t afford to make it to the grid, some get arrested, the remainder end up in the escape road in a cloud of smoke, steam and fire.

Who would the drivers be? I’m guessing Luca Badoer, Taki Inoue, Narain Karthikeyan, Yuji Ide…

19th April 2011, 8:25 at 8:25 am #167297MovementMemberLove this idea for a thread…
can we also put them in any of the cars which we want?
19th April 2011, 9:54 at 9:54 am #167298IcthyesParticipantProst weren’t really so much of a reject team. Prost was promised lots of support by the French government for a French team in F1 but it never came through. They never had the finances and sadly disappeared off the grid. If anything Lola deserve to be there instead!
19th April 2011, 10:10 at 10:10 am #167299Ned FlandersParticipantI know, like I said it was just teams I felt like putting in there. If I was going for the 13 worst teams ever the list would look very different!
That said, if you discount their impressive debut season, Prost were surely one of the most mediocre teams of their era. They had a beautiful livery, and some great drivers, but they just seemed like a perpetually crap team. I wonder how they’d be doing today had they survived?…
