If Massa got the boot, who should replace him at ferrari? (57 posts)

Personally, I think all paths lead to Timo Glock, he’s young and experianced.

He’s 29, not really that young. In F1 terms anyway.

    Petrov to annoy alonso

I guess Kubica would have been lined up but now it’s an unknown situation with himm at the moment he’s out of the picture for now.
I would love to see Kobayashi or Alguesuari in a Ferrari but i can’t see it happening realistically.
If Massa got the boot at the end of this year and Perez turns out to be massively impressive, i wouldn’t bet against that kind of move.
Personally though i think they’ll just stick with Massa.

@RIISE he looks really young and he’s experianced ;)

lol i thought he was younger than that, well that’ll make him doubly desperate, an his still quality.

I reckon Webber could be a possibility, even if just as a 1 year stopgap to allow time for other drivers to come off contract with other teams.

Well Kubica would be a gamble, but if he returns I fail to see how he’d be worse than Massa. I mean honestly, if the accident had an influence on his performance he might not be uber anymore, but Massa has been pretty rubbish.

I’d like to say Fisi but someone who Ferrari want instead of Massa should not be reserve driver. They want top class driver who give them huge amount of point if not win. even though Massa is struggling, there’s few drivers better than him and most of them are in Ferrari’s rival.(Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, Button, Kubica) Well, last year’s contract extension of Massa was not ideal but they had no other choice.

Perez? too young. Bianci? same. Fisi? not better than Massa. Kubica? possibly. but Renault has priority and Ferrari would not want him to rally again…and I have doubt that he’s the same one as he was. Remember Massa’s off-the-pace could be due to the accident in 2009.

the problem is Ferrari don’t like risk. They don’t like rookie. If they are willing to take risk, options would be much widen. If Webber opens option, Webber should be the best choice. but it looks like unlikely.

No one has mentioned The Hulk, great track record coming through to f1, then that pole last yr and a decent finish to his season. Thought of by some in the paddock as a future wdc.
I like Koboyashi myself but think Ferrari would go more for someone like The Hulk.

A few f1 journos have said Alo doesn’t want Kubica at Ferrari and that’s why he wasn’t signed by Ferrari for the 2011 season. If Alo had no say I would want Kubica in the car (assuming he’s not lost any speed due to the accident)

@GQsm I think The Hulk is a very good option, but he’s not typical Ferrari-favorite. well, if Massa struggle too much this year, The Hulk could snatch his seat. I agree with you that Ferrari would prefer The Hulk than Kobayashi.

Let’s see podium finished(and now on the grid) drivers.

    Button : Unlikely
    Hamilton : Unlikely
    Vettel : Unlikely
Webber : Possibly. even though he could not be a long-term solution, Ferrari gains time for someone talented and young.
Rosberg : He likes Mercedes much more. at least now.
    Schumacher : Are you kidding?
Petrov : Hmm…I don’t think Ferrari likes him. He still has much to prove.
Heidfeld : Possibly. but you have to wait he’s same as old days.
Jarno Trulli : Too old, not fast
Koivalainen : Many had doubt when he was in Mclaren. now it gets worse.
Glock : one of plan B. he could be temporary solution. but there’s still doubt.

Fisichella : if Massa have another accident.

    younger one?

Perez : it’s too early to say he’s good
Kobayashi : good. but I don’t think Ferrari would choose Japanese.
Bianci : GP2 driver to replacement? usually happen but not for Ferrari.
Hulk : probably the best choice among young drivers.

the problem : there’s no perfect choice…some better choices could be not available. Experienced drivers would choose Ferrari only when he wants Ferrari and prepare to back up Alonso when he’s demanded or he believe he could outpace Alonso.

If Sutil hasn’t shown anything to get him out of a FI drive so far then I don’t see why he’s shown enough to land a Ferrari drive same with Heidfeld.

Glockis an idea Erggy. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting he ios on the grid but that’s because of the car not for lack of talent.

Kobayash- personally as much as I love watching his overtakes I don’t rate him as much as many seem to and his qualifying was dreadful at times last year.

    Bianci in a few years.

I’m ashamed I didn’t even consider Hulkenburg! Mercedes probably have their eye on him but it’s up to Nico where he goes.

True about Rosberg, he could have had that McLaren seat but may have felt threatened by Hamilton. If so, he wouldn’t want to go up against Alonso!

Ferrari would probably want Kubica (or even Vettel), but I don’t see either of them going there while Alonso is still around. I also don’t see Bianchi getting the drive, its not Ferrari’s style to go with a rookie, but you never know. Of the current crop I don’t see who else (a) could do a better job than Massa to be honest (Why am I defeding him?!?) and (b) who would be happy being a number 2 to Alonso.
