Just be careful how you spell “Poe’s Law” peeps. If you spell it the way Hare did (without the punctuation) it ends up as a very derogatroy word in Afrikaans! I remember that a SA cricket commentator accidently wrote it on the little screen they use to draw arrows on the live footage (if you’ve watched cricket, you’ll know what I mean) and promptly lost his job!

    Hahahaha…

Very funny, well written and (in my mind) obviously a joke.

And I’ve also learned something new today too – “Poe’s Law” !

And on the Red Bull nationality point…Chippie is right, RBR holds an Austrian Licence and is as such an Austrian team, regardless of where their base is. That’s why they play the Austrian National Anthem when they win. On this point I seem to remember that Benetton became an Italian team when they changed from a British licence to an Italian licence in 1996 but kept their base in England. On a similar note Scuderia Toro Rosso hold an Italian Licence (because of the Minardi heritage), and are therefore an Italian team.

BTW I have taken this to be an entirely tounge in cheek thread and as such had a good chuckle while reading Chippie’s original post!

I LOVE Chippie’s concept. Very much tongue-in-cheek, but it is an interesting thought.

In fact, if one goes back, a very limited number of countries had teams win titles. No German team has ever won the Constructors Championship (Mercedes won their title before the WCC was created). And looking at Wikipedia, I’m a bit surprised Brabham is registered as a British team (at least when they won the 1966 title) considering Sir Jack is an Aussie.

Traditions are there to be broken.

If you had said this in a normal conversation, it would have become immediately apparent. But you aren’t in a conversation, so you just come off as being a jerk.

Come off as being a jerk to someone who takes literally everything too seriously, maybe, but to most of us here, its obvious that he was kidding.

Very interesting original post. Gave me a good laugh! How dare these Austrians invade our beloved “Grand Quartet”!?

Brilliant post – Chippie’s obviously a talented rhetoric! I like the first paragraph in particular – the imagery is fantastic. The devices used, especially the hyperboles, make the tone, in my opinion, rather obviously sarcastic. Never mind the smiley at the end.

Other than McLaren winning, there’s also a chance of Red Bull being bought by one of countries belonging to the ‘Grand-Quartet’! I am not laughing either, and think that the latter is, alas, much more likely…

It seems like the Bulls have seen Red, and thus another November Revolution is upon us.

Right, and the point of that was…?

Alright look, stop rubbing it in, it’s not a !Brilliant! post, it’s not an evil post, it’s a low to medium funny joke. Just that, someone got caught out, someone that usually doesn’t at it seems like you’ve all got your knives out.

Please just leave it now, this is unwanted drama in a community thats gets on very well without the usually sillyness that populates sports forums, let’s keep it that way huh?

The problem lies not with PM ‘getting caught out’, but him calling someone a disgrace. That is exactly what you, Scribe, tell others not to do – i.e. getting the knives out.

I understand PM’s wish to fight intolerance with intolerance – whether that is good or not is up to everybody to judge. People merely explain that it was a joke and there is no need to get contradictory.

Let people enjoy the thread; I find it brilliantly written, you find it a ‘low to medium funny joke’. Our opinions differ. No need to get paternalistic :).

Hahaha, this is all very funny, especially some of the reactions… Until I saw the smiley face at the end, I really thought that Chippie had a thing against Austrians. Which is fair enough, I hate them too… ;)

If this thread was a Grand Prix, I think we’d have seen the ‘Incident under investigation by the stewards’ message round about now. Harmless thread is harmless.

And by the way, Steph, why do you feel the need to put yourself down all the time? You’re a very funny lass, don’t worry about that!

Just don’t get me started on the Swiss…. :D
