I know this was the rule in 2009 but nothing was made of it in 2011
I can’t find anything saying there’s a speed limit but to be honest I don’t think F1 cars spend much time on many circuits going under 100kph anyway.
I didn’t know it was a rule, I thought it was just the optimum time to use it, as at lower speed on full throttle would cause wheelspin.
Why would you want to use KERS under 100kph?
At the start or out of a first gear corner perhaps.
Taken on face value; at 100kph an F1 car would still be traction limited – slam the throttle flat on the floor and you’ll just spin up the rears. But the reason for not allowing KERS above 100 is that you could tweak the KERS to release energy at a controlled (rather than constant) rate – thus potentially creating a rudimentary form of traction control.
