Hi,
Sitting here bored, waiting for FP3 to start I had the bright idea of comparing the performance of the new teams by pretending that no-one else was racing. So I awarded the same points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. as are normally awarded i.e. 25, 18, 12, ….. I only awarded points if the driver finished the race. This is what I got:
Group B Drivers Championship
Heikki Kovalainen – 194
Timo Glock – 141
Lucas di Grassi – 116
Jarno Trulli – 92
Karun Chandock – 92
Brunno Senna – 64
Sakon Yamamoto – 28
Group B Constructors Championship
Lotus – 286
Virgin – 257
HRT – 184
The real surprises for me is that Trulli isn’t higher, and Chandock is on the same points as Trulli even though he’s missed the last four races.
All I can say is “C’mon Virgin”!
Regards…Paul

I also realised that the points should be awarded as classified – e.g. Kov gets points for today (Singapore) even though he didn’t finish. So here is the updated list including Singapore:
Group B Drivers Championship
Heikki Kovalainen – 204
Lucas di Grassi – 153
Timo Glock – 141
Jarno Trulli – 132
Karun Chandock – 131
Brunno Senna – 68
Sakon Yamamoto – 34
Group B Constructors Championship
Lotus – 336
Virgin – 294
HRT – 233

26th September 2010, 16:20 at 4:20 pm #145848ChippieParticipantGood idea, C’Mon Lotus!!!!
27th September 2010, 12:39 at 12:39 pm #145849gpcampbellParticipantLook at trulli’s results, when the car has lasted to the finish he’s normally been lagging behind a virgin car or two.
Also it is looking likely in real life that virgin are going to finish bottom of the constructors. Probably not the worst thing since HRT badly need the monies

I was thinking more “disaster”.

The new teams scoring (in this championship) often comes down to reliability for instance Trulli would be much better p-erhaps if he ahdn’t had such rotten luck esp with his DNS. Not only that but Virgin and Lotus I believe have had at least some upgrades whereas HRT can barely afford the paint job when they swap drivers.

12th October 2010, 20:34 at 8:34 pm #145855credible58ParticipantIf you take the points and divide by the number of finishes (and so roughly eliminating reliability factors) you get the same rankings:
Heikki Kovalainen – 22.9 pts per finish (10 finishes)
Lucas di Grassi – 17.0 pts per finish (9 finishes)
Timo Glock – 17.0 pts per finish (9 finishes)
Jarno Trulli – 16.7 pts per finish (9 finishes)
Karun Chandock – 16.4 pts per finish (8 finishes)
Brunno Senna – 13.0 pts per finish (6 finishes)
Sakon Yamamoto – 8.4 pts per finish (5 finishes)
Christian Klein – 0 pts per finish (0 finishes)
Group B Constructors Championship
Lotus – 19.9 pts per finish (19 finishes)
Virgin – 17.0 pts per finish (18 finishes)
HRT – 13.2 pts per finish (19 finishes)
No surprise Virgin has least finishes bearing in mind the problems they had at the start of their season but I’m surprised the gap isn’t bigger.

7th November 2010, 23:37 at 11:37 pm #145859ChippieParticipantSo that’s it! Senna has officially lost to Chandhok! That is horrifyingly embarrassing for Senna! Despite the fact that they’ve finished the same number of races, without a doubt Bruno should really have done a lot better this season.
