Senna and Prost are presumably 1 and 2 (or 2 and 1), so that leaves 3, 4 and 5. Personally I’d put Hakkinen in there somewhere, and also Lewis Hamilton. So that leave one more spot: a toss up between Hunt, Lauda and Fittipaldi (most likely I think).

I don’t know how to guess really. That Raikkonen was so low means could do absolutely anything with the rest. Also, I don’t know much about their cam-am drivers. But I imagine the top 5 will include Senna, Prost, Fittipaldi, Hakkinen and Lauda. I guess Hunt would be up there somewhere to. Although Bruce could be anywhere as well. Don’t know about Hulme. His sportscar career and that he helped established the team’s success might raise him quite high.

Jt 19, if yiu are going on driving ability, I’m surprised to see Amon & Ickx so far down the list.

Did Ickx drive for McLaren other than a single F1 race though? And was Amon a driver for them in Cam-Am?

I think it’s time this was revisited. I still can’t understand the rankings at all: ‘Dan Gurney played only a brief walk-on role in the McLaren F1 story.’ They say that and then rank him higher than Raikkonen. To me this list has little-to-no credibility. Discuss.

The list continues to be awful. Rosberg is 7th, and his entry describes his career achievements, despite the list being supposedly based only on their contribution to McLaren. It then summarises his entire time at McLaren in a single line, saying he was trounced by Prost- so that was apparently a better McLaren contribution than Raikkonen, Coulthard, Watson, Hulme etc.

I honestly don’t understand. If this was Williams’ 50 greatest drivers I’d surely have Keke in the top 10, but Mclaren’s? He only drove one season for Mclaren, and didn’t win a race (although he would’ve won in Adelaide without his puncture).

That being said, Prost didn’t trounce Rosberg in 1986. The difference was so great because Rosberg had 8 retirements and 11 DNF’s against against Prost’s sole. In terms of raw speed, Keke was as fast as Alain.
