29th December 2013, 12:50 at 12:50 pm #247670Colossal SquidParticipantI hope it’s false, and if it isn’t false, I hope he’ll make a full recovery. Michael Schumacher was my childhood hero, and I don’t want to see the man leave us for a long, long time.
29th December 2013, 12:53 at 12:53 pm #247671JourneyerParticipant@colossal-squid Amen to that. And amen again.
BBC and Sky are reporting it, so the incident must be legit. What we don’t know at this point is how serious the injuries are, if at all.

I am sure, and hopeful, Micheal will come through fine and get back to racing cars, not skiing!!!

Full statement from resort is there (and the translation has been reported on BBC too). Let’s hope the news stays positive.

29th December 2013, 19:53 at 7:53 pm #247675AnonymousInactiveHearing reports that his condition may have deteriorated and that a statement should be written in the next hour from the hospital.
I’m hoping these reports are false.
29th December 2013, 20:50 at 8:50 pm #247676Ed MarquesParticipantFrench sources are saying that he has cerebral hemorrhage and that his condtion is critical.
29th December 2013, 21:11 at 9:11 pm #247677Lucas WilsonParticipantNoooooo!
Hang on in there Shumi!
29th December 2013, 21:19 at 9:19 pm #247678andae23ParticipantAfter the initial shockwave in the media I had hoped it turned out to be less severe than initially thought, but reports don’t sound good..
29th December 2013, 21:46 at 9:46 pm #247679Ed MarquesParticipantIt is official. He is in a coma and his condition is critic.

German agency SID quoting Schumacher’s management saying he’s “critical” and “fighting for his life”29th December 2013, 21:52 at 9:52 pm #247680Prisoner MonkeysParticipantI believe the coma is medically-induced, which is commonly done to help stabilise patients in cases like these. Look at Richard Hammond, who went through something similar following his dragster accident. The most important thing is immediate medical attention, with surgery to relieve the pressure on the brain whilst doctors find the source of the bleed. Patients often go into these operations in a serious condition and come out critical because doctors need to be sure they have stopped the bleeding – if they miss even the tiniest of bleeds, it can kill quickly.

29th December 2013, 21:57 at 9:57 pm #247682AlecMemberSo sad. Seems sick that he survived such a long racing career with just broken legs, now this. GWS Schumi.
