Oh, and let’s not forget that Porsche (since people have mentioned them in this thread) were so wary about the damage that could be done to their name if they didn’t win in F1 that they branded the engines they supplied to McLaren as TAG’s. When they started winning, the “TAG-Porsche” moniker was born.

Anyone noticed the fact the VW Group logo now appears on the Toro Rosso website?

@mb1603 Curious. I think VW supply the Toro Rosso team member’s road vehicles at race weekends. VW used to for Red Bull as well, but Red Bull use Infinitis now (for obvious reasons).

There are many VW Group-Red Bull connections in other series, of course: e.g. with Audi in the DTM.

As long as they keep Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich as far away from the whole thing as possible, I wouldn’t mind them joining F1 too much. Still, I wouldn’t give anything about it until they have actually confirmed their entry as a supplier and have appeared with their engines at the first GP weekend. If VW and partners are known for one thing, it’s changing their mind pretty quick. Only BMW can outdo them in that, really.

I believe this was noticed last year as well, around the time rumours of VW’s potential for future involvement came up. I’m pretty sure the explanation then was the same: that VW supply team vehicles, like the transporters.
