Wow, I love that Orange / Rocket Red Mclaren!! Something different, something fiery and keeps sponsors happy with team colours.

I think it will be quite a while before we see Mclaren F1 without a mercedes engine. I would love to see the old mclaren honda color from the early 90s. The MP4-5 is my favorite F1 car of all time. Anyways I am from the states and I love Mclaren F1. Hopefully Hamilton or Button wins the WDC this year.

What about Red? The team looked awesome dressed up in Red in China, plus it would piss of Ferrari. http://www.thef1times.com/news/cache/images/lewis-hamilton-china-2011-red.jpg

You know what, everyone’s been screaming colour clash but that Red and Orange McLaren looks the buisness! Especially with suitable use of black at the rear to both hide the packaging and look awesome.

Red cars obviously arn’t really allowed, unless another great Italian marque were to come along, however Rocket Red and is McLaren through and through, possibly more than orange. If you could combine the two though… Fire cars!

I’m fairly certain Ferrari don’t hold the patent on the colour red. They might own rosso corsa, but there are dozens of shades of red – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Shades_of_red – that could be used within reason.

    EDIT + ;)

Imma obviously joshing, but they would moan like babies.

Well, Ferrari would probably complain if another team showed up with a red car – but as McLaren and Mercedes GP have proven this year, you can have two teams running cars of similar colours without mass confusion (it doesn’t really apply to Red Bull and Toro Rosso, because when was the last time they were racing one another?).

Just wondering, does anyone know if Ferrari complained back in 1998 when Williams decided to go with a red car due to their main sponsor?

  • Profile picture of Ned Flanders Ned Flanders said 2 years ago:

Well obviously couldn’t complain, it’s just a colour. It would just be a bit of a faux pas for F1 to have its two most famous teams running in the same colours. A bit like if Barcelona adopted white shirts

  • Profile picture of Scribe Scribe said 2 years ago:

Or if Arsenal, Liverpool and Mancherster United all adopted the same colour for their kits.

  • Profile picture of Ned Flanders Ned Flanders said 2 years ago:

Yes, that would be a quite preposterous situation

McLaren would be the first to not want the red colour. Ok if it is, like now, a small part of the livery, but not as main colour, because they would want to keep their identity and not create confusions (the Red cars are Ferraris for antonomasia).
Their current sponsor, Vodafone, uses mainly silver and then red, so until they keep sponsoring McLaren the British team will keep those two colours.

Be quite cool if they went orange for a one of livery at Silverstone, perhaps for a special annaversary? X years since forst win special classic orange livery?

    Is 2011 an anniversary?

The drivers might have special Hugo Boss overalls, but that’s to celebrace the relationship between McLaren and Hugo Boss.

No idea if it is or not but it would be smart if they went for a unique livery to celebrate the company’s birthday or similar…
