Just hours after Autosprint ran stories suggesting Raikkonen would replace Petrov at Renault, AMuS ran their own stories claiming Petrov had done enough to retain his seat, provided he kept the money flowing in. Given Renault’s connection to Lada and to the Russian government as a result, I think Petrov would be pretty safe.

It’s a tough call but will Renault will want Kimi to join them? Petrov so far this season have done a good job but Renault will want someone who can too challenge for the championship. As Eric Boullier said

So as all the big teams have two drivers who are capable of fighting for the championship why will Renault be on the back foot. I think if Renault wants then Kimi won’t say no.

Mclaren offered him a chance and he said no and they were/are in a much better position. I can’t help but feel with the tyres changing it could spring a few surprises. Renault may be in good form right now but we’ve yet to see if they can win races again. The other thing is – Kimi might just like the WRC better.

I don’t think Kimi will ever return to F1. I think the rumours I just people hoping he will. Can’t see them forking out the insane money for Kimi when they have Kubica in the team.

From what Lopez said it seems Renault is genuinly interested in luring Kimi back. Now Kubica, their newly confirmed long time lead driver has said on air that he would be happy to have Kimi in the car next to him.

It would be a major boost for Renault, if they can make that work!

And it would be a great basis for the two of them to have some rallying fun as well (not sure about Citroen liking it, but maybe Renault is getting into WRC as well?). I think these guys might get along pretty well.

Renault have no interest in a WRC programme. They might make the Clio available for junior championships, but they’re not going to go establishing a works team or anything of their own. I seriously doubt Raikkonen will go to Renault.

Not sure I heard that US_Peter but I did remember Kimi saying he will weigh his options sooner than later. I do not really think Kimi will come back in 2011. It would be nice if he did but I doubt he will.

Apparently during the Rally of Finland Kimi said something like he’ll have more time to get better results or something at home or something along those lines. It was so long ago though I can’t remember sorry but I still think he’s staying put in the WRC for at least another year.

Kimi was offered to test Pirelli tyres first but turned it down. That screams to me that he isn’t coming back to F1.
