I don’t think this is as ridiculous as some people make it out to be. If you look at the money side, then it’s clear that Ferrari can pay Raikkonen a bigger sum than Lotus can muster up.
But there are a few other factors that I’ve noticed too. James Allison is going to be moving to Ferrari, and we all know that Raikkonen holds Allison in high regard. Then there is the fact that Ferrari have yet to win a Championship in quite a long time. Maybe they have finally started to care more about the Constructor’s.
Two of the top four in the Driver’s are Raikkonen and Alonso, so that pairing would obviously be very formidable. Ferrari don’t have a car that looks to be competing for wins at the moment, but maybe that will mean that they will forget about this title (Possibly after Monza) and aim to get a jump on 2014. I mean, there’s no guarantee that Red Bull will be the top come next year, especially if the Ferrari engine is above and beyond the best there is.
If that were the case, then maybe Ferrari would do what they could this year to help Raikkonen win this year’s title, in order to bring the number 1 to Ferrari in 2014. This is obviously the most speculative part, but it’s worth a thought.
Given Alonso and Raikkonen’s consistency, it would prove to be something very difficult to beat next year.
