I’d say it’s a fake, largely because it claims to be from the Valencia accident. It’s in far too good a condition to have survived that backflip, especially since the marks on the rim claim it is his front-left. Secondly, everything involved in the crash would have been taken by the team, the FIA and Bridgestone in an attempt to sort out what had actually happened during the accident.

Also, wheel rims don’t have “certificates of authenticity”. Especially ones that are not watermarked or signed in any way.

Thanks guys, it’s not cheap, dont want to get ripped off & fork out so much cash for a fake…. I really do want to buy a current / recent rim for to make a coffee table..

You’ve asked that particular question before. The answer is still the same: teams do not readily give away stuff like wheel rims. Or any other car part, for that matter. Especially since we’ve seen teams develop specialised rims that offer advantages (like Brawn GP putting their brake calipers on the lower side of the rotors to lower the centre of gravity; this required a specialised rim to accomodate it).

It’s surely fake. Like PM said, out of all the wheels it could be it has to be the one from “the crash” seems a bit fishy to me. It could just be any old broken wheel rim.

If you’re going to spend a grand you should check out Racing Gold which are official Red Bull parts made into Lamps, coat stands, clocks etc.

Looks somewhat legit. I’m not an expert on wheels that raced in F1, however.

One thing I would say is, if you’re going down the coffee table route. Get a wheel that hasn’t been crashed. The rim is wonky, so the glass won’t sit level, and will only be sitting on a very small contact patch where the high spots are, so it will wobble.

I was referring to you generally asking about how/where you could acquire a wheel rim.

Like I said, there was no watermark or signature on the document. Plus, it looks far too wide to be the left-front rim and not nearly damaged enough to be that particular rim.

I’d contact red bull and verify the sellers claim that: “F1-247 ARE THE WORLDWIDE AGENTS FOR RED BULL RACING”.

Then you’ll know whether they’re trustworthy.

He obtains it all directly from from Williams and Red Bull so it’s all legitimate and the wheel in question above is from Webber’s Valencia crash.

Some parts can go on sale earlier than others depending on how sensitive they are. Key aerodynamic parts might be kept back a few years – Mark mentioned some parts from the 2006 RB2 are only just going on sale now.

Wheels, though, are not that sensitive and so that’s how these ones arrived so quickly. Mark mentioned two damaged wheels from Webber’s crash in Korea are going into the system at the moment.

Mark says he’s happy to respond to questions from anyone looking to buy any ex-F1 car parts so do get in touch with him if you have any questions.
