Drivers like Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel and Raikkonen are above average. Senna and Liuzzi are below average. Heidfeld is better than those two, but he’s still only average.
Evaluating F1 talen isn’t as clear cut as that. Heidfeld’s record against teammates still suggests a (at least) slightly above average driver. Given a good car, he’d be top 10 in a 24+ driver field (even if still behind those four, Rosberg, Schumacher, Button and Kubica). If his record was poorer (i.e. beaten by half his teammates) then i’d dismiss him as average.
Heidfeld would deliver consistent points I agree, but who would turn down Kimi over Nick?
