After Sunday’s Valencia outing, it was time to wake up this thread, that’s for sure!

Feeling a bit better about Hulk. He showed some cojones Sunday, good to see. Like shrimp on the barby, with time and seasoning, I think he’ll be fine.

Petrov continues to disappoint me. I had such high hopes for him.

Kobi ! YES !!! Now my son, THAT is a ballsy driver. Looking really fine and sure of himself, like in the last 2 races last year. Kobi may just have found the handle again on Sunday. I nearly screamed myself hoarse when he passed Alonso, and then again when he passed Buemi just yards from the checker. THAT was a great drive he did on Sunday, all race long, matching everyone elses’ times, or bettering them, with tires that were 50 laps old. Don’t know about Rookie of the Year Award yet(looking good, tho), but Kobayashi is certainly my Rookie of Valencia, and also gets MY vote for Driver of the Day.

Same, definatley the most impressive an exciting drive at Valencia. If you look at Kobayashi over the season though, he’s been consistantly matching or outpacing De La Rosa for almost the entire season, thats damn good for a rookie, now De La Rosa aint no Kubica that’s for sure but if the first battle is your team mate Kobayashi’s been the most impressive rookie over the season so far on that rating as well.

An he qualified 7 on merit at one point, an he got Sauber’s first point, guy didn’t wake up this race, he’s been pretty good since the begining, certainly better than Petrov.

That said I suspect my neutrality is compromised.

I was more impressed with Kobayashi’s pace then his dives. They were ballsy and brilliant to watch esp at that track and it took skill but he was on brand SuSo’s at that point I believe. So it was good yes but for me (a bit boring) I was more impressed with his speed and not binning the car with the old tyres but certainly more entertained with those passes.

To be fair to Pedro de la Rosa too he has had three years out of the sport and we’ve seen how much that can effect the driver so Kobayashi has a much easier time with him than Petrov with Kubica.

Steph – yeah it’s easy to forget that Pedro is also making a comeback, especially with all the hype about Schumacher. To be honest, although he hasn’t managed to score a point yet, Pedro is doing a solid job in comparison to his team-mate (more so than Schumacher compared to Rosberg… and we won’t mention Luca Badoer!)

    Kobayashi.

Petrov is useless – when Kubica isn’t scoring Renault goes home with empty hands…

Kobayashi had another good run today; Huelkenberg was solid if unspectacular, I was waiting for a lunge on Schumacher that never came, but that was probably sensible!

I was too for a while until I realised that I’m pretty sure that the Cosworth doesn’t have quite enough horses to be able to do that to Schumi

James – Perhaps, but then you’d have expected Schumi to pull away, which he didn’t. Michael’s comments post-race about how he’d gone off the track trying to catch Barrichello would also suggest the performances of the two cars aren’t that different right now.

Rookie of the year for me has definitely been Kobayashi. He is in a team with limited resources, that is not guided by an immensely talented Barrichelo or Kubica, and yet has managed some good points.

I am also pleasantly surprised at Chandhoks performance. He has been able to give his much famed team mate a tough fight, even though Senna won from him easily in GP2 in the same team.
