I was always perplexed as to why you shouldn’t do that with go-karts, first time I was in one the guy was really stern about it. Turns out all you do is skid, I suppose he doesn’t want it in the wall or anything.

Last time I went karting was in Spain and they said nothing, just stuck you in the kart and let you get on with it. They didn’t even bat an eyelid when I started messing around doing Scandinavian flicks and whatnot. I think it’s probably just the safety aspect.

Yeah, I think you’re right Icthyes. I think we were told it also hurt the engine?
I remember watching on the ’90 review and at Pheonix Berger crashed out because he did it so it must be the same for karts.

@Steph ahh no, the interview I was thinking about where Rubens mentions using his right foot across pedals was a few years ago. I think he mentioned it as part of describing an accident.

Re: the go-karts, they say not to use them at the same time because it can burn out the clutch. most karts have a system where the brake pedal disengages drive while the accelerator applies it. there is a distinct smell karts make when the clutch is burning.

newer carts have a system where pressing the brake will deactivate all acceleration so it forces the two-foot action

it is a good tip in karting anyway, since you want to have the kart pointing straight into a corner to slow down and accelerate on the way out. doing what schumacher does in an F1 car in a go-kart will have the kart sliding, which is apparently bad for lap time but good for fun :). they say a good go-kart lap is smooth with no tyres screetching, slow in, slow apex and gentle accelerator out of the corner with only two steering actions (in, apex then out)
