I don’t do advanced aerodynamics until next year so anything I say is based solely on ignorance, but I imagined the McLaren’s ‘squarer’ cockpit may be an attempt to channel more air into the U-shaped sidepods.

Like I said though I’m in a position of ignorance but I find discussions like these fascinating. I’d love to see some images of this ‘tyre warping’. I hadn’t noticed it.

@UKFanatic well that changes game plan a bit. I’ll dig a bit around this issue. Last I talked about it was in Spa; who knows what they know now…

@Muzzleflash @dam00r Squarer is better in straight line. the round has more lift, because of the zones of pressure on the round corners that spill over the top side, and for the bottom side. Round only has a small advantage in transient in the turns, but this is not substantial. This is my observation from CFD

@raymondu999 At first when you told me it was just tyre warping I had my doubts but I agreed, now that after rewatching some footage Im pretty sure that this effect is a mere illusion caused by the Pirelli letters, in comparision with the bridgestone the pirelli graphic is more complex, the “P” extends over the other letters filling that area with much more colour than the other gaps between letters probably causing that distortion.
