    @Nico WDC’11

(You never saw much from Lewis or Kimi in the 09 season when they were given a crap car did you? Nico has had that for 4 seasons…)

Raikkonen and Hamilton are not to be compared. Raikkonen doesn’t deserves to be in the same sentence as Hamilton. And that year Hamilton proved that even in a crap of a car a good driver can still achieve two wins, one second and two third places.

(Nico has had that for 4 seasons…)
    There are reasons for that.

Except 3 wins and 4 poles between them.

They finished one point apart, with the same number of podiums, in similarly poor cars.

Hamilton’s performance from 2007. to 2010. showed the F1 world that he is something special. The facts speak for themselves.

I don’t know if you are a Raikkonen fan but that far too arrogant Finn did nothing when he had the chance too. Six years ago (2005.) he had convincingly the fastest car on the track but didn’t lift his finger do to something with it, That year was a disaster for Mclaren. In 2007. Raikkonen comes to Ferrari, (Mclaren mysteriously and suddenly became amore reliable car) performes brilliant in his first race but the rest of the season nothing special. Again he didn’t lift his finger about the championship but this time luck smiled on him – he became the World Champion thus quickly becoming the Schumacher’s heir.

    @ clark

I am not a Raikkonen fan, but in 2005, Raikkonen suffered car failures while leading three races. He also suffered with grid penalties on numerous occasions. His car was fast but fragile, guess who designed it? That’s right, Adrian Newey (who also left around when Mclaren started having better reliability). Regardless, he extracted the maximum from the car whenever it didn’t fail (and far more than JPM, a decent enough driver). Hardly a case of him not “lifting his finger”. He was voted as F1 driver of the year, too.

In 2007, Ferrari had a car that wasn’t better than the Mclren MP4-22. But he still won six races (two more than anyone else) to take the title. You don’t win 18 career races and a title without “lifting a finger”. Well, if he didn’t, then it shows how damn good the guy was.

I quite like Rosberg, he’s probably not the best driver but he’s not a bad one and I think that he’s not had the Cars that could have shown his true potential.

That said, I dont think he’l emulate his old man and be a WDC, he might prove me wrong but at this moment, I dont see that happening.

So what is that? He won six races and still barely won the title and if there hadn’t been fights between Alonso and Hamilton do you think he would win the title? And what about 2008? Massa was far more better than him. What about 2009.? Massa was better than him before the incident in Hungary. Every team that he left became more competitive and far more MOTIVATED since his department.

I think that these discussions are pointless. If you wish to reply, go on. But I think there are better drivers to talk about and I will not spend a minute more on arguing about Raikkonen. – No offense mate.

A title win is still a title win. He won it despite a higher car failure rate than either Alonso or Hamilton, which you conveniently neglected to mention.

Back on topic, I agree with the overall sentiment that Rosberg should be able to fight for WDCs in the future if given the right car. He will win races in the future, i’m sure.

I personally rate him very high, even higher than Vettel to be honest. No hate against Vettel, just think he is a tad overrated. After all Heidfeld out qualified him in 2007 and Webber isnt on my Tier 1 list. Still rate Vettel amongst the best just have a few people in mind that I rate higher and Rosbergs one of them. Just my opinion.

I don’t Rosberg winning a championship unless he has the best car in the field, his competitors are too good.

@ Nico WDC ’11 , Nico is a good driver and I have nothing against him . Remember 2009 Singapore GP . He qualified 2nd and had a good chance to holding on to it . But he screwed it up with that error coming out of the pitlane .

Yes , in F1 you are as good as your car . But will he be able to beat the Hamiltons and Alonsos if he is given the same car as them ????

Which sounds impressive until you remember he had 2 retirements to Hamilton’s and Alonso’s 1 each…and there was also Hamilton’s puncture at the Nurburgring (I’m getting worried by this tendency now!) and his tyre blowing up in Turkey, I don’t think Raikkonen had any similar incident apart from crashing (his fault) into Sutil in Monaco.

Raikkonen reminds of Mansell in that he won the wrong championship and people will remember him less favourably because of it. I think something similar might happen to Rosberg if he won in the scenario I painted before.

“I don’t think Raikkonen had any similar incident apart from crashing (his fault) into Sutil in Monaco.”

Sorry Icthyes but that was in 08 not Kimi’s title year. Kimi did suffer a failure at Monza practice (I think) where he hurt his neck but was fine to qualify and race, retired at Spain, in Monaco he crashed in qualifying starting p15 or 16 and as you rightly point out he had his usual grelims at the Nurburgring (I think most of his races at German tracks in F1 have ended in retirements) .

I wasn’t aware that Nico is hated. This is news to me.

Yes, I am remembering things incorrectly, thanks Steph. Though it kinda reinforces my point. Oh and the Germany gremlins I was referring to were Hamilton’s, not Kimi’s! But he has had a lot of bad luck himself there, yes.
