Today I was thinking about something I read about a couple of months ago. During the Magny Cours test Mercedes was asked by the FIA to test a shark fin on their car for the purpose of driver identification.
Does anyone know what became of this idea?
Not entirely sure if it is set for this season, but if you’ve seen the McLaren MP4-28 video, then it certainly looks like they have altered the airbox area, which could in turn mean that they have added a shark fin.
@JamieFranklinF1 Difficult to tell but it seems there is still a dimple where this shark fin could be. So I don’t think they have one.
I’m pretty sure the introduction of DRS made sharkfins too unwieldely for teams to use. Which is a good thing, because they were hideous.
I thought Mercedes were evaluating this for the FIA? If so then they’d need to be mandated in the rules, which hasn’t happened in the 2013 or 2014 regulations published so far.
Would be pretty cool if it could be done on the airbox without a shark fin.
