@raymondu999 – Renault said that the decision on whether Petrov would stay or go was entirely down to Petrov. Assuming this is true (I’ve never heard of a team doing it before, and Renault have no reason to lie on this), then I doubt Petrov would have left Renault without some degree of certainty on where he would land.

Yes, the Russian sponsors will walk.

I have no idea who might sponsor Renault now. Maybe they’re banking on Kimi Raikkonen attracting some spnosors, but Raikkonen couldn’t sell water to someone dying of thirst. Any sponsor looking at joining the team would know that Raikkonen is only going to do the bare minimum of PR hours.
