Isn’t Valsecchi within the Caterham circle? Or is he no longer?

The latest stupid rumour suggests that Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer is looking at buying into HRT. Palmer is best known for nearly getting Gold Coast United kicked out of the A-League and then closing half the team’s home field when fans of the team criticised him for his mismanagement, announcing plans to build a replica of the Titanic to be called the Titanic II, and in a crowning moment of stupidity, he declared his belief that Greenpeace is a CIA front designed to disrupt the mining boom and protect the American mineral industry.

The race seat is a shootout between Clos and Karthikeyan probably whoever has the most sponsorship will get it

How does that work? A shootout is two drivers competing for the seat on the basis of their lap times and performances at a test session. Giving the seat to the driver with the most sponsorship makes the concept of a shootout redundant.

Isn’t Valsecchi within the Caterham circle? Or is he no longer?

If he was, he’d be driving for Caterham’s GP2 arm.

@prisoner-monkeys is he? I don’t get GP2 coverage around here, nor do I follow the news on GP2

Valsecchi? He’s with DAMS. He and Razia raced for Caterham last year, when they were known as Team AirAsia. Both were subsequently cut loose, and the team picked up Giedo van der Garde and Rodolfo Gonzalez.

@prisoner-monkeys aha. So I wasn’t completely off the mark. Last year they WERE in the Caterham circles…

    Ok.

What are the possiblities of Esteban Gutierrez replacing Kamui Kobayashi for 2013? This way Sauber would become a full sponsored Telmex Team (I mean it’s thecompany of the richest man alive…), wouldn’t that be more lucrative for the team than deciding to stay with Kamui?

I think you’ll find that Sergio Perez is far more likely to leave the team and Kobayashi.

I’ve watched a fair bit of GP2 this year and I wouldn’t put Gutierrez in the car next year. In fact, I wouldn’t put any of the current GP2 drivers in an F1 car next year.

I think both Perez and Kobayashi will remain but Gutierrez will get a role similar to what Bottas has at Williams. A friday test drive for Esteban but I have to agree I wouldn’t put Gutierrez in the car either

    Bottas-to-McLaren rumours “nonsense”:

  • Profile picture of duncanmonza duncanmonza said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

Well firstly, why would Williams let Bottas get away? Secondly, why would McLaren want an unproven driver when there are excellent drivers already in F1.

    @duncanmonza

why would Williams let Bottas get away?

Maybe the same reason they’re willing to put up with Maldonado binning the car all the time: a wad of cash thick enough to choke an elephant with.

I can’t see McLaren taking a chance with a guy who won’t have raced anything for 18 months.

At least Bottas and Williams have got to know each other a bit this year, and he’d just be another young driver starting out in a Williams (albeit a highly-rated one) rather than the new star McLaren driver.

If McLaren are really stuck for a driver, by some strange twist of events, I wonder if they’d go back to Heikki Kovalainen. In that interview with Motor Sport about driver contracts, Martin Whitmarsh implied he was one of the most straightforward drivers to work with.

I didn’t see any Bottas to McLaren rumours.

James Allen believes that the deal between Hamilton and Mercedes is already done:

Lewis Hamilton’s demeanour and that of his team after victory in the Italian Grand Prix bore all the hallmarks of a divorce that has already been agreed. Minimal celebrations on the pit wall and beneath the podium, a team photo for appearances’ sake with an implacable looking Hamilton and Ron Dennis declining to join in.

So I would say that we can already start to discuss who will be Button’s new team mate. JA suggests that Vodafone could be interested in bringing Perez to McLaren. I hope that McLaren will hire either di Resta or Perez.
