My thoughts of how the grid would look like based on the current scenario:
1 Sebastian Vettel
2 Daniel Ricciardo
With veteran Mark Webber announcing his retirement from F1, Infiniti Red Bull shortlisted 3 of the current drivers viz. former WDC Kimi Raikkonen and both the drivers of its sister team Scuderia Toro Roso to fill the vacant seat. Even though Jean Eric Vergne impresses with his performances post the YDT in Silverstone, backing from the influential Helmut Marko lands Daniel Ricciardo in the coveted Red Bull number 2 seat.
3 Fernando Alonso
4 Nico Hulkenberg
Felipe Massa had shown glimpses of his driving skill initially during the season, but crashes during four consecutive race weekends meant his confidence was low and the pressure on him was mounting. Though he improved his points tally as the season progressed, he eventually decides to bid adieu to Formula One and announces that he would race in Indycar. His last year at Ferrari evokes mixed reactions from the fans. Ferrari decides to fill the number two slot with the proven hands of Nico Hulkenberg.
Mercedes AMG F1
5 Nico Rosberg
6 Lewis Hamilton
Since both the drivers have secured long term contracts with Mercedes, there is no change in the driver line-up in their team.
7 Kimi Raikkonen
8 Romain Grosjean
Despite being lured by the big money of Red Bull, Kimi decides to stay with Lotus as he does not want to play second fiddle to his good friend Sebastian Vettel. Crash free and improved performances coupled with the backing of Total means Roamin Grosjean secures his Lotus seat for another year at least.
9 Paul Di Resta
10 Adrian Sutil
With the vacancies in Red Bull and Ferrari being filled up by Ricciardo and Hulkenberg, Di Resta is left with no option but to stay put in Force India. Difficult first half of the season notwithstanding Adrian Sutil retains his seat at Force India for another year thanks to his solid points haul in the latter half of the season.
11 Jenson Button
12 Sergio Perez
McLaren are not in need of a new driver since both their drivers have secured long term deals with the team.
14 Jean Eric Vergne
15 Antonio Felix Da Costa
Red Bull decide to take a new path in the development of their young drivers deviating from their established practice of throwing both the drivers at Toro Rosso at once. With Daniel Ricciardo securing the second seat at Red Bull, Jean Eric Vergne is allowed to stay in Toro Rosso for the year since Red Bull do not want to put two inexperienced drivers at the wheel in a year where technical regulations are undergoing lot of change. They decide to fill the vacant seat of Ricciardo with the much hyped kid Antonio Felix Da Costa.
16 Jules Bianchi
17 Sergey Sirotkin
With the infusion of Russian money and Sergey Sirotkin taking a seat in the team, the team from Switzerland have decided to go for the talented Jules Bianchi from Ferrari Driver Academy with the added benefit of discounts on the Ferrari powertrains.
18 Pastor Maldonado
19 Valtteri Bottas
On the heel of their nightmarish season without scoring single point, Williams decide to retain both their existing drivers.
20 Max Chilton
21 Robin Frijns
With Jules Bianchi moving to Sauber, Marussia decide to tread the same path as last year with one seat being filled by a pay driver and the other being filled by a talented rookie. This means Max Chilton retains his seat thanks to his pocket money and Robin Frijns enters into Formula One.
22 Charles Pic
23 Heikki Kovalainen
With Caterham losing the 10th place in the constructors’ standings to Marussia, they decide to offer a seat to Heikki Kovalainen and Charles Pic retains his seat.
Scorpion F1 Racing-Ferrari
24 Kevin Magnussen
25 Cocetto Jnr
Bernie Ecclestone announced that there is a new entrant for the 2014 season. It was later revealed that the team would be called Scorpion F1 Racing. The new team from USA announced their driver line-up few days ago. McLaren’s young driver Kevin Magnussen is loaned to the new team, who would partner with Cocetto Jnr in his first venture as an F1 driver. It was also announced that the Scorpion cars would be powered by Ferrari engines.
