It’s highly likely tha the second Williams seat will go to van der Garde as he has a lot more sponsorship than Maldonado, he has the whole of the McGregor company behind him who have just left Williams as a sponsor (or according to a dutch paper have just resigned a deal for 3 years). i believe van der Garde will take the Williams seat and Maldonado will take his millions to HRT (effective Williams Junior team as they are being supplied bits and bobs)

Bradley, didn’t you get the memo? Maldonado was announced as Williams’s second driver this morning.

Force India is the real point of interest for me. I’ll be disappointed if they stick with Liuzzi and Sutil – that is a team that needs to stop the rot by making a change or two.

Also, what is it with STR and not confirming their drivers on the annual entry list? Do we think that Buemi and Alguersuari would be their drivers, but there is some kind of interest from a third party in purchasing the team?

Also, with STR being up for sale, what does this mean for drivers in the Red Bull Young Driver scheme?

With Williams confirming Maldonado the only real seats of interest still up in the air are Petrov’s at Renault (sounding more and more like they’ll retain him), and Force India. Other than those three seats all the other mid-pack seats are pretty much confirmed (with the exception of the ambiguous nature of Torro Rosso’s entry on the FIA list). So I guess it’s basically down to the one Renault seat, Force India, Virgin, and HRT. HRT is definitely the biggest wildcard, my money’s on Tiger Woods and Simon Cowell, with De La Rosa as test/reserve driver.

Seems like only 5 seats are still available, with Sutil and Alguersuari probably certain. So I’m guessing Force India will take di Resta and fire Liuzzi, and Toro Rosso wil take Hulkenberg and fire Buemi (they tend to fire drivers often). About HRT seat, I think it’ll go to Klien.

Ok just to put things in perspective I will put in my own estimates the drivers, their ranks and their situation:

    -Vettel – RBR (confirmed)
    -Alonso – Ferrari (confirmed)
    -Webber – RBR (confirmed)
    -Hamilton – McLaren (confirmed)
-Raikkonen – Reports suggest that he is quiet happy in WRC, not coming to F1 anytime soon
    -Button – McLaren (confirmed)
    -Rosberg – Mercedes (confirmed)
    -Massa – Ferrari (confirmed)
    -Kubica – Renault (confirmed)
    -Sutil – not confirmed
    -Kobayashi – Sauber (confirmed)
-Schumacher – Mercedes (confirmed) *Needs to retire
-Barrichello – Williams (confirmed) *Needs to retire
-Piquet Jr. – Reports suggest that he is in talk with HRT to returen to F1, but reports also state that he is quiet happy in NASCAR
    -Petrov- Renault (confirmed)
    -Hulkenberg – not confirmed
    -Heidfeld – not confirmed
    -Liuzzi – not confirmed
    -Kovalainen – Lotus (confirmed)
    -Glock – Virgin (confirmed)
-Trulli – Lotus (confirmed) *Needs to retire
    -Buemi – Torro Rosso (confirmed)
    -Alquesuari – Torro Rosso (confirmed)
    -Perez – Sauber (confirmed)
    -Maldonado – Williams (confirmed)
-Bottas – Willaims (confirmed) *test driver
    -D’Ambrosio – Virgin (confirmed)
-Guitterez – Sauber (confirmed) *test driver
    -Di Resta – Not confirmed
-Bianchi – Ferrari (confirmed) *test driver
    -Chandok – Not confirmed
    -Yamamoto – Not confirmed
    -Klien – Not confirmed
-Ricciardo – Torro Rosso (confirmed) *Test driver
    -Karthikyan – HRT (confirmed)
-Razia – Virgin (confirmed) *Test driver

So from this list we can deduce the following available seats:

    RBR – test driver
    Mclaren – test driver
    Mercedes – test driver
    Renault – test driver
    Force India – driver 1 & 2 + test driver
    Lotus – test driver
    HRT – driver 2 + test driver

I think that Force India will put all their eggs in a basket and get 2 of Heidfeld, Hulkenberg, or Sutil. They are the only team without a driver and a crop to pick from.
